I feel like I'm some EA fanboy coming here and posting how much fun I'm having but it's the honest truth. I cannot believe how good this game is. I am seeing goals from the CPU that I have actually been shocked by. The amount of times I've dropped my jaw and also fist pumped after scoring a big goal is crazy.

CPU goals aren't just your typical shot, one timer, etc. I just played the Pens and got smoked in shots and TOA. Anyway, I want to share their 4th goal because it was so sweet. Unfortunately I didn't take a video. On their goal they took a wrist shot from the point that missed the net high blocker side. Talbot went down in the butterfly. The puck comes off the glass and I believe it was Rust (covered well by Dumba) taps it to Kapanen with one hand on his stick and Kapanen slams it in to a wide open net short side because Talbot couldn't slide to his post quick enough after the initial shot from the point. It was absolutely awesome and so natural looking.

I know EA has their psycho mode for the CPU but I have not seen it once and I've played close to 40 games. Every bit of pressure they have put on has been totally natural and life like. Not that crazy passing around the zone. I just cannot believe the stuff I'm seeing.

To finish I'll just say EA, PLEASE don't screw this game up from the state it's in now.

Agreed... I'm barely playing Madden right now because all I want to play is hockey.

I'm in the process of creating 24 teams with 6 jerseys each (so basically 48 in-game teams) to play with in NHL 21. The biggest hurdle I'm having when it comes to getting the jerseys done, is that the game is so fun to play that I keep needing to play a game every time I get 1/2 a team done lol!

After playing more today, unless they mess up gameplay with a patch/tuner it's the best hockey game I've played on a console to date.

Like you said, the goals I'm seeing are like real life and I've been playing console hockey since Atari. Each game has been organic and lifelike it's crazy.

I know EA gets a lot of grief but if they still read this forum, they did a great job with NHL 21.

I've been looking through almost all pages in this thread and I am somewhat confused. I realise that most people have different views on what's realistic and not but...

So from what I understand:

1. There is still small differences in player attributes like say if you create a player with 99 speed compared to 55 speed and check the speed at which the player skates?

2. The same goes for sliders, some sliders dont do enough in terms of how the game plays?

3. NZ plays dont work as they did before the patch?

I gave up on the NHL series long time ago but got my hopes up this year. I have not played NHL in years. I think the last game I played was 17.

This is the first ea hockey game since 14 I have enjoyed. Man the joy of having to dump and chase, work the cycle. Watching goalies redirect shots to the corners.

I am really having fun with this one. My one wish so far would be able to turn off that auto switch. Makes me crazy, I have an angle on a puck I dumped and just as I go to make a play I get a different guy

Anyone playing this on PS5? Thinking about picking it up around Black Friday. I know there's no upgrade, but I assume it's sharper and smoother thanks to extra horsepower alone.

Honestly, with this game I don't notice too much difference from the PS4 Pro. It doesn't get the same FPS boost Madden does from dropping into 1080p resolution, so everything outside of the actual gameplay is still 30 FPS. I do like the feel of the controller over the DS4 so it has that going for it, at least.

If you're comparing to the base PS4, yes, it will definitely look better because native 4K (and even if it's downsampling that to fit your monitor/TV it's still going to be a crisper image). I can't compare the Base PS4's performance on this game to the PS5 because I haven't had the base for a long time.

Yeah, gameplay (by which I mean everything that happens puck-drop to whistle on the ice) is 60 FPS even in 4K. It's only during the off-play scenes - like player close-ups, wide-angle arena shots, etc. - that it drops into 30 FPS-land.

I never had any issues with the game being choppy during gameplay on the Pro - again, don't know what it was like for the base PS4.

Does anyone know if the draft lottery is in this game? I'm sitting in 3rd to last place on the first day of March so no doubt about it I'm going to be shooting for a top pick. I just haven't played this game in years so I don't know if the lottery is represented or if they just go last place gets 1st pick, etc. I assume it's in since I found a reddit post that 2017 had it.

Default AS, 7 minute periods, 4/4 penalties, 2/2 fighting. I believe the rest are on defaults, maybe strategy settings 3/6 like the CPU as I don't mess with that stuff during game play.
