The worst part is, since I play on Manual Line Change, sometimes I don't even have time to put the lines I want on the ice because of this !

Played two games on the trial. There's always a complaint about Madden, Show, NBA 2k being a new coat of paint and a roster update. I'd love to see what a novice would say if they sat down and played say NHL ps4 to now.

This is rough. This won't even be a $30 purchase. I'll just wait for access and stick to 22 since for me anyway this feels the exact same. Every part of it.

So I've played several more single player games and a few online games. The bottom line is I see some nice additions and subtle changes but way too many lingering issues and bad AI still exists. I could see tweaking the sliders enough to enjoy the game but.......unfortunately we all know that once the HUT micro transaction money spenders whine about things every single thing anyone posted they like , game play wise, will be eliminated via patch and tuner. It happens every year. The game initially shows promise and its soon patched to play exactly like the year before to appease the HUT babies.

But that's one of my complaints. The game comes out and I see enough promise to warrant slider tweaking and try and enjoy a season but the patches send you back to the drawing board on the sliders and by late November, maybe early December, the game no longer resembles the game I purchased and plays exactly like last years.

The problem is EA thinks a patch is a one size fits all solution and that's idiotic thinking. Something that fixes an offline CPU AI issue screws up something with online human players so they fix that but that screws up the offline players experience. They do this a few times and settle on appeasing the online community who is still pumping dollars into the game where us offline guys only pay the initial price..

I understand patches take care of bigger issues and they aren't going to make multiple patches at a time but why can't they release offline tuners separate from online tuners and name them as such giving us the option?

Weird because I played the hell out of NHL20, but for different reasons and the hockey fever just came back not too long ago, so I downloaded NHL22 (free on game pass) and I’m very happy to say that I’m really enjoying my time with slider tweaks and fixing the dumb Offensive AI for DMEN’s…

As a pure OFFLINE player, I can say that this game gives more than enough for my hockey fix…

As for Tuners, aren’t there multiple versions that you can choose ?

Yes, they've removed that as part of their "Presentation Upgrades" feature.

I have EA Play so i figured i might as well try the game.

I will say the gameplay has enough subtle changes that it felt different enough for me and if im being honest its probably in the best state its ever been. Its definitely not the most realistic but its getting closer and most importantly it was a lot of fun.

That being said, the presentation is abysmal. I dont know what they were thinking. It is a great looking game. There is a lot more authentic nuance like the calling for the puck or pointing with the stick etc....but you barely get to enjoy it.

After what i played last night i would have most definitely changed my mind and purchased but with the condensed presentation being the only option, its still a hard pass from me.

Man this is a real head scratching decision they made.

Game has a bunch of improvements, and the AI actually shoots the freakin puck. Been outshot in four out of eight games already. However, skating across the high slot and shooting is still a goal 100 times out of 100 even with slider tweaks, so even though I'm having fun with the trial I think that warrants a no-go until they actually fix that. Goalies feel almost TOO good otherwise, but they can't save that simple shot EVER. Gotta give props though, the game is definitely getting better. It's playing more like hockey every year, but EA letting big glitches like this (and a couple years ago, the easy to do, absolutely unstoppable cross crease goals) slip through is really hurting the offline experience. If they tune scoring variety to realistic levels and got rid of the sure-thing glitch goals, I really think there is nothing major you could harp on as far as pure gameplay.

I can tell it's going to be another year of goalies not having even average save percentages since all the CPU shots come from the slot. Unless you want to go down the rabbit whole of nerfing goalies so much you only see one type of goal.

Also PPs are just awful. CPU goes into some super human aggressiveness so you either just turn the puck over or you bait them into odd man rushes and score easily. The CPU cycles the puck better on a PK than 5 on 5.

Same two reasons I barely played 22. At least Robert Thomas has a face scan.

That would be great, they are already a small budget team compared to the rest of the sport. How can you expect them to better the product.Best way I think is competion from 2k or Sony.

So, this is where we're at now? EA blocking you from changing strategies in Franchise mode now? We're at the mercy of the Head Coach, I guess? These developers seriously are pulling out all the stops to intentionally piss off offline players, holy cow.

I’m a casual NHL player, I can take the game or leave it. It’s not very immersive, I’ve never been crazy about the movement, and it’s just been relatively stale for me for a long long time.

Played a quick game and it seemed nice, nothing jumped out to me. Crowd audio was noticeably lively and the flow was solid.

Then started a be a pro goalie, which is my normal go to. More of the same for me tbh, CPU won’t shoot from anywhere but the slot. Nothing is varied in their attack. I’ll play out the trial and if the new goalie animations are plentiful (I really haven’t seen any yet) I’ll think about buying. If not I’ll happily go back to last year as I’m about three years deep with my goalie.
