    Re: BAGM Progress Thread

I'm in Year 3 of my Flyers franchise.
Pronger retired after Year 1 (what the hell?) and Timmonen retired after Year 2.

In Year 2, I won the Stanley Cup in seven games over Calgary. It was, by far, the greatest video game hockey experience I ever had. In fact, the entire playoff run was awesome. I lost Game 1 in each series and had to battle my way back. The effort and time put into the game was well worth it. Funny thing is, while mostly every game was determined by one goal, I put a butt whooping on the Fames in Game 7 (7-0). The Stanley Cup celebration and subsequent championship banner celebration the following season was just... awesome.

Giroux and JVR are studs, by the way.

      Re: BAGM Progress Thread

I usually play online, but all of the cheesing in club was making me sick so I started a franchise with my Devils.

I started from the draft with the draft day rosters. Just like the real Devils, I released Paul Martin and resigned Ilya Kovalchuk, but unlike the real Devils, I traded for Simon Gagne since he is a very disciplined scoring threat.

I play with my own sliders. I went 3-1-0 in the pre-season, but in the regular season so far I haven't really started off very well, sporting a 5-6-2 record. My last game was a 2-1 win over the Canucks in OT.

Kovalchuk: 13 games played, 8 goals, 3 assists
Gagne: 11 games played, 7 goals, 3 assists
Parise: 13 games played, 4 goals, 6 assists

I am kind of stuck in a hole though, because I have very little cap room due to the Kovalchuk signing and I have Jason Arnott, Rod Pelley, and David Clarkson all injured, so I have no scratches on my NHL or AHL team and had to bring some players up from Albany while they are all injured. However, Arnott returns in less than a week thank God.

My next game is @ Chicago Blackhawks (6-6-1)

I'm off to an 0-2 start (after going 3-1 in the preseason) with the Avs. Lost 1-0 to the Blackhawks in the opener and then blew a 2-0 lead on the road in Philly and lost 3-2. Up next is Detroit in Joe Louis Arena.

            Re: BAGM Progress Thread

Season 3 with the Edmonton Oilers fantasy drafted. First year was rough, as i went all for youth. Second year we won the cup in 6 games against Buffalo, after finishing 5th in the conference. My lines:

            S.Stamkos, 91 OVR T. Seguin, 88 OVR-A- T. Hall, 89 OVR

            A. Burmistrov, 83 OVR J. Tavares, 87 OVR M. Duchene, 86 OVR

            M. Paajavri, 80 OVR K. Turris, 82 OVR W. Simmonds, 82 OVR

            J. Chimera, 81 OVR M. Belesky, 78 OVR G. Parros, 81 OVR

            V. Hedman, 88 OVR-A- E. Johnson, 89 OVR-C-

            C. Fowler, 85 OVR T. Myers, 85 OVR

            R. Ellis, 81 OVR P.K. Subban, 83 OVR

            C. Price, 89 OVR

            C. Schneider, 82 OVR

The team still has a ton of potential, many with A's and B's. Seguin still has A potential in both offense and defense, with A- in athletiscism. Obviously not going for realism here, just thought it'd be fun to draft a real young team and watch them progress. Kind of feel another Oilers dynasty here, just like the days of Gretz and Messier etc. Feel free to ask any questions, I've been enjoying reading everyones updates!

Played Game 12 at Carolina and the Penguins continue to struggle offensively without Crosby, losing 3-2 in Raleigh. Malkin had both goals (8 & 9 on the season); his second tied the game late in the third, but Carolina scored shortly thereafter. A high-sticking call on Jordan Staal -- his 11th minor penalty of the season in 12 games -- with a little over a minute remaining prevented Pittsburgh from getting any pressure at the end.

That's two losses in a row, dropping the Pens to 8-3-1 overall . In three games without Crosby, Pittsburgh has scored only five goals and Malkin has four of them.

I like this thread...it actually seems more interesting than posting personal dynasties. I'll starting pitching in more.

Keep it up QB, without Sid its definitely going to be a challenge.

I'll say this...for those who say there is no player separation in this game, they need to take another look. The difference from playing as Sidney Crosby to even a guy like Parise is night and day. Sidney is on a different level than stars of Parise's caliber in this game. Both he and Ovie, actually.

I notice it more in the stick handling than anything. It seems easier to do the high end moves.

Wish I was the Pens sometimes.

Whole 'nother can of worms though.

                  Re: BAGM Progress Thread

OK, I have to confess, I restarted my Be A GM today. I was growing unhappy with my slider set and decided to give Qb's a test drive. After a few Play Now games, I knew Qb's would prove to be the better route to go over multiple seasons than my set, which I think are probably best served in Playoff or Battle For The Cup modes.

With the restart, I once again lost to the Blackhawks, this time 4-1. Game two saw me fall behind 2-0 in Philly within the first three minutes, but I managed to fight off that early frustration, stayed with my strategy and wound up winning 5-3. I had a real nice dump-and-chase that led to a goal by Matt Duchene. I'll try and upload the replay tomorrow if I get the chance.

                    The Blues are 33-17-6.

FWIW, I rarely ever win a Conference Title, so I'm kinda pumped about being in 1st right now.

The Penguins drop their third straight game, losing 3-2 in Dallas. The game featured 79 PIMs & 14 PPs, including three fights -- Talbot & Morrow went twice -- and a major & game misconduct for Chris Kunitz. As one could assume, the Pens are getting quite frustrated with their recent poor form. Following their 0/7 PP showing, Coach Bylsma spent extra time working on some set plays for the man advantage in hopes of improving their woeful 12.7% "success" rate on the PP.

The good news is Crosby is progressing quite well in his recovery and is about a week away from returning. He'll miss the games in Anaheim and Phoenix, but could return Nov. 10th to face Boston.

I think I might raise the period length again, as the shots on goal were quite low for a full hockey game. I'll keep experimenting.

Anyway, we're now 2-0 on the road and 0-2 at home, for a 2-2-0 record overall. We'll see if the Jets can get off the shnide at home in the next one against LA.
I raised the period length back to 10 minutes and we beat the Kings 10-2.

Not that I mind winning in a blowout, but THAT was a little ridiculous. I think I'll try 8 minutes next game and see how that goes. I can feel that I'm getting the hang of the game, though, and my skills are improving. The main difference in this game was I'm starting to figure out the best timing on when and where to take shots.

There's a lot of stuff to tweak in this game so I'll keep messing with the settings and try to perfect it.

So, we're now 3-2-0, and it looks like the Hurricanes are next at home, before we go on a 3-game Eastern road trip.

I noticed that even though I set the OT rules to one period and no shootout, the standings still keeps track of OTL in a separate column even though it doesn't result in any points. I kinda wish there was a way to set it to not do that, but it's a small complaint.

Sabres Drub Western Leading Blues 6-4

The St. Louis Blues fell from 1st to 4th in the Western Conference after a 6-4 defeat to the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres would out-shoot the Blues 33-22 in the victory while David Perron would get his 20th and 21st goals of the season.

Ty Conklin, who has struggled in the 2nd half, picked up another loss.

The Columbus Bluejackets move to 1st in the West.

                              Re: BAGM Progress Thread

I think I've finally found my rhythm which the Devils.

My powerplay is starting to be the downfall of many other teams, with Ilya Kovalchuk and Brian Rolston blasting slappers and one-timers at goalies who constantly are getting screened.

As a result, I've built a three-game winning streak. After my 3-2 win against the Rangers, I've won games against the Sabres and against the Oilers.

My game against the Sabres was hard fought, as I started off terribly with numerous penalties resulting in a 2-0 difference in favor of Buffalo. But then, in the second period, I scored two quick goals on two quick powerplays (one of which was a 5-on-3) to make it 2-2. Thomas Vanek scored his second goal of the night on a breakaway in order to make it 3-2, and I honestly could not stop him for the whole game. I had to give credits to Marty for making the great saves that he did, and I helped him out with a late goal coming from Simon Gagne to make it 3-3. Followed by a scoreless overtime, Zach Parise barely put one behind a flailing Miller to win the shootout 1-0, and to win the game 4-3.

Against Edmonton, I took advantage of every opportunity that got given to me in the first period, making the score 3-0 after the first period was over, and then started the second period off strong with a powerplay goal to make it by Ilya Kovalchuk who had a monster game. At this point, it was 4-0, but then I committed a few penalties which took away my momentum, and Edmonton capitalized to make it 4-1 after two. Then, at the start of the third period, they scored off of a deflection to make it 4-2. However, Marty stole the show at this point, making save after save after save to win the game for me. This also consisted of an unbelievable save off of a rebound by Brodeur, as he dove out of the net and stopped the rebound shot with his forearm. An empty netter by Kovalchuk sealed the deal to give Kovy a hat trick and to win the game 5-2.

At this point I am now 8-7-2 and have finally gotten my team to play as a unit defensively and offensively.

So I started a BAGM with my favorite team the ottawa senators. Started the season off against the Sabres. Now I got the game when it came out and I was 0-15 against the sabres. And its not the fact that I couldn't beat them as it was how they would beat me. 3 goals in the final min to win by 1 and stuff like that. Well anyways back to my season. Game started out me just destroying them in the first period. Score was only 1-0 but it wasn't that close of a game. Second period I score again to go up 2-0. They scored right before the end of the second period. Halfway through the period we score again. Spezza was playing huge for us with a goal and an assist. Final minute comes around and they score to cut the lead to 3-2. Now I'm thinking not this again. But my goalie LeClaire stops like 5 shots in the final 15 sec to hold on to the win. Not such a huge win for the team as it was for me personally. 1-15 against them and praying I won't have to face them if I make it to the playoffs lol
