    Re: BAGM Progress Thread

I had a sim gm going for a while to see if I could develop players etc. But I have always had my "play only" gm mode too.

Using my own sliders, and playing on allstar, i'm 7-4-0 right now with the Calgary Flames.

I started out 6-2 and dropped 2 of my last 3. Giordano has been injured since game two with a sprained ankle and should be coming back soon.

Alex tanguay is yet to net a goal while Iginla has 8 and 14 points.

Started a Pegula Era Sabres Dynasty. Simmed the first season as I always do. So I started in 2011-2012..

Traded Jochen Hecht for a few mid-round draft picks
Moved those draft picks and Chris Butler for Alex Tanguay
Signed Brian Boyle, Arron Asham, Ryan Johnson
Signed Mathieu Garon as back-up keeper...

      Vanek-Roy-Pominville
      Tanguay - Ennis - Boyes
      Boyle - Gaustad - Stafford
      Kaleta - Johnson - Asham
      --
      McCormick, Gerbe

      Myers - Sekera
      Montador - Leopold
      Morrison - Weber
      --
      Gragnani

      Miller
      Garon

      Currently 4-1-1

        Re: BAGM Progress Thread

        *This is NHL 10*

From the "How the _____ did that happen?" department:

Playing as the Cleveland Renegades (Formerly Tampa Bay) against Nashville. I go up 4-0 after one period. Cinch win, right? Well.........

In the second, Nashville gets three goals on me, making the score 4-3. Into the third I go, and wouldn't ya know-----Nashville scores three more goals! That's right, that's a total of 6 unanswered goals....

I lose, 6-4. That started a trend-----I'm on a 6 game losing streak right now. I switched goalies several times to no avail. I've re-shuffled my lines.....moved players around.......etc.

I went from a record of 33- 23 to now 33-29, and falling fast in the playoff race.

I have some questions quickly: Every time I try to bring up a player from the minors and send someone down, I'm told "You currently have a full roster. " I'm not able to switch players between leagues! What's the secret here?

Also, Lecavlier (sp) absolutely sucks on faceoffs. What position normally does faceoffs, so I can switch?

        Thanks guys....

Interesting to see this kind of long-term sim.

Who are some of the drafted players that have become stars in the league?

For the second year in a row my Panthers BaGM file became corrupt. Argh! I guess it wasn't meant to be so I started a new one with Minnesota and this time I'll back it up frequently.

Damn, that sucks. I had this happen to me last year with NHL 10. I played all 82 regular season games, plus 3 rounds of playoffs and just after the Draft, my file was corrupted. It had to do with the stupid Scout assignment phone and simming during the off-season to advance the schedule.

Last file corrupted, argh, so i started a new one as the Los Angeles Kings.

It's early in the season but the situation in LA is already interesting, we're sitting at 3-3-0 currently.

Alex Ponikarovsky and Davis Drewiske have both sustained month long injuries,Pony with an ankle, and Drewiske with a hamstring.

Not wanting to break up my third line (Smyth, Schenn, Simmonds) I put Scott Parse in Poni's place on the second line and at this point, surprisingly, Parse is leading the team in goals with 5.

LA is heading into a match-up saturday on the road against a 1-4-2 Colorado team that will be desperate, should be a good one

My #1 Blues are taking on the #8 Canucks in a rematch of two seasons ago, when the Vanucks swept the Blues in 4 games.
After winning the first two games at home, the Blues went into the final minutes, only to lose when Daniel Sedin was awarded a penalty shot that the Blues wouldn't be able to make up.
In game 4 the Blues and Canucks would end the 3rd tied at 3 a piece. After another 20 minutes of fighting they would remain tied. In their 2nd overtime round, both teams battled for almost 10 minutes. After Polak was sent off for boarding the Blues went on the PK. The Blues won the draw, and on a lucky break, McDonald streaked down the ice to take a pass from Backes and get a shorthanded game winner. Game 5 in St. Louis takes place tonight.

                  My Lines:
(signed Radulov after he came over from the KHL at the beginning of the season)
                  Stewart-McDonald-Radulov
                  Perron-Backes-Berglund
                  Sabotka-Oshie-Steen
D'Agostini-Betts-Crombeen (Picked up Betts off of waivers at the end of the season)

                  Defense:
Byfuglien-Jackman (Traded a rookie goalie and a 3rd round pick for Buff)
                  Pietrangelo-Polak
                  Shattenkirk-Coliacovo

                  Goalies
                  Halak
Gustavsson (I can't figure out why the Leafs keep sending down their 81ovr goalie. I won't object though, this is my 2nd Be a GM where i've gotten to pick him up. It ended up as an almost 1 for 1 trade in my favor. I picked him up from the Leafs, and when sending Conklin down, he didn't clear waivers. I looked to see who grabbed him, and for some reason the Leafs did. Oh well, their loss.)

Started a new sim BAGM with the Panthers. Going to try and build the core of the team through the draft and player development. Just passed the trade deadline and am 27-31-5 for 59 pts with the fourth worst record (3 teams behind with 58) so I must tank harder for Nugent-Hopkins.

Did the following trades at the deadline.

                    To Carolina:
                    RW Niclas Bergfors
                    LW Tim Kennedy
LW Sergei Samsonov (I know, LOL)
                    C John McFarland
                    2012 5th round pick.

                    To Florida:
                    C Zach Boychuk
                    D Tim Gleason
                    LW Drayson Bowman

                    To Buffalo:
                    C Shawm Mattias
                    RW Steve Bernier
                    LW Jeff Lovecchio
2011 3rd round pick from WAS

                    To Florida:
                    C Cody McCormick
                    RW Jason Pominville

                    Lines are now:

                    David Booth (83) - Stephen Weiss (84) - Jack Skille (79)
                    Drayson Bowman (75) - Zach Boychuk (76) - Jason Pominville (83)
                    Rostislav Olesz (80) - Mike Santonelli (75) - Michal Repik (74)
                    Darcy Hordichuk (80) - Marty Reasoner (78) - Byron Bitz (78)

                    Dmitry Kulikov (81) - Jason Garrison (78)
                    Tim Gleason (81) - Alexander Sulzer (74)
                    Keaton Ellerby (74) - Mike Weaver (76)

Not sure here Sega, but it maybe the order in which your doing it.

Meaning...you need to first send a player down, to make room for the guy your calling up. Hope this helps.

Thanks Vikes, I figured it out. I was trying to move players with 1-way contracts, meaning they would have to clear waivers and could be picked up by another team. When I said "no", the message came up.

I can only move players with 2-way contracts between leagues. So much to learn about the intricacies (sp) of NHL GM's.....

Man, the Wild's system in this game is crazy effective. I'm 7-1-1 so far and leading the league in goals by a wide margin. I've scored 10 once, 8 twice, and six three times. The Wild trap in the game seems much more conducive of offense than in real life. As soon as I turn the puck over I'm looking to make a couple of quick passes and my guys are in the clear. I haven't ever seen this many breakaways or odd-man rushes in an NHL game before. I've really been feasting on slow footed defensemen too. Put up 8 goals on L.A. and Matt Greene was a -6.

So far, using the Wild has been a huge difference in gameplay than the Panthers. Even with Havlat out the team didn't slow down at all, filling the net for six against the Caps.

Offense has slowed down a bit in my Wild BaGM, but I'm still rolling. Record so far is 15-3-2. Scoring has been really evenly distributed with six guys at a point per game rate. I've had some key players miss some games at different points (Havlat missed a few games and then Zidlicky), but it hasn't caused me any difficulty.

Backstrom hasn't been as good as I'd like him to be. Meanwhile, Theodore is 3-0 with and hasn't allowed a single goal. I'd also like a bit more reliability out of my bottom two defensemen. Other than that though, the team hasn't faced much adversity. I'm waiting to hit a bit of a rough stretch.
