GM MODE...NEED IMPROVEMENTS in 14
The GM Mode in the NHL Series has been pretty bad and dull since 08. Are there any plans to pump some more life into it in NHL 14?
More stats?, better interface? Ability to control more teams? Play random games on the schedule? An NHL News section? Team Previews? Playoff Previews and Tales of the Tape comparisons??? etc??Tags: None -

I would be happy enough if they only fixed player progression..
Endurance, durability, aggression for skaters and vision for goalies stay at the same level from when a player is drafted to when they retire.. At the same time, you'll have dozens of players with 99 rated passing, checking, shooting power/acc. etc..
Also, all CPU generated rookies come into the league with whip flex sticks, #4 curve, and 9" skates...
GM mode is a mess, it needs a ton of work to even be playable.Comment

I would love for GM mode to be revamped, but I am not holding my breath for it to be done. Even if it were with the amount of fixes that would be needed, we would only get a few of the features to work as they are intended to and the rest would be fixed in later editions of the series. I only play offline GM mode so the current state of Be a GM is a bummer.Comment

Rookie progression in BAGM mode is terrible right now. Top 5 in the draft are almost a 100% lock to become dominant, best in the league type players, and 3rd round and below draft picks are 95% locks to become guys you release after their entry level contracts.
Now and then you will find a late 2nd round pick become ok (like in real life), and maybe (maybe) a 3rd every now and then.
4th round and down have 0 chance of ever playing in the league.
I know IRL there is also a very low chance of a 4th rounder and down making it, but every year you see a low pick come out of nowhere.
Plus, contracts should be based on performance, not on rating. I have had guys who have never played a game in the NHL asking for 1st line money coming out of the AHL because their rating bumped up to the mid 80's.
Plus how about the occasional first round bust? I know it would piss me off if I drafted in the lottery and the guy never panned out, but at least it would be closer to reality.
PS. I have noticed lately that there is a huge deficit in right handed D-men. (at least in my BAGM)
Most times I have to scroll through 30 players before a right handed guy comes up.
They are rare, but not that rare. Sometimes only 2 per draft.
Might just be a glitch in my career, but who knows.Comment

We need to have at least Head Coaches in the game, that you can hire fire or extend.

They are rare, but not that rare. Sometimes only 2 per draft.

If only NHL 14 could give us the scouting rookies just like in College Hoops 2k8 that will be amazing. You could either play as the player you'd like to scout, watch the game where 1 or perhaps even more players you're scouting in a game, you could go to specific leagues to see their stats etc.Comment

not that I dont like some of these specific ideas....I think EA needs to fist focus on some of the more BASIC Features of just a standard Franchise Mode before they start adding some of these more outlandish suggestions
I mean currently, there is no Main News page with Newspaper articles or any Around the League News. These are basic things missing that would pump up the excitement level
There should be Team Scouting from game to game that shows more in depth comparisons and tidbits of info on your opponent's strengths and weaknesses, play styles and key stats, players, etc
There should be more distinct styles of play for each team and player...currently, all teams play very similarly and all players play very similarly and lack a wide variety of play styles, tendencies, and attributes...not to mention the game overall lacks a large enough variety in distinct animations...
...Everybody moves, shoots, checks and acts the same in the game which creates a very sterile 'been there, done that, seen this' style of play with each and every game which makes the game feel very dull and repetitive after playing just a few franchise games!
The game needs to really demonstrate just a wider variety of game play and Franchise Features. This is why I have been spending alot of time actually playing NHL 2K7 and 2K8 lately....it plays a much more dynamic game (despite some of its own issues)Comment

They need to revamp the whole ratings system. There needs to be a bigger difference between the Big names in the league and the 4th line grinders. They can't all be 85+.
Also, tieing in with that, progression is broken, busted and out of whack. Needs work.
And third in the same theme, make training a thing. Let me tell a player to train for example shot power. The trick is to make it significant enough to be wortwhile but not OP.
Bring back Line Chemistry. Or maybe I have a messed up memory and it was never a thing in NHL. Anyway, put it in there.
Thinking about it there is just so many things they could put in. I'm just going to stop here for now..Comment

I just recently started playing Be a GM after months of playing Be a Pro. I'm enjoying it but it definitely needs some work. Just some things off the top of my head:
-Ability to re-sign players during the season
-Hire/Fire head coach and maybe 1 or 2 assistant coaches
-Stats for players that go back more than 2-3 years & what teams they were on
-During Free Agency, when I went to the "recently signed" list it didn't tell me what team the player signed with (I dunno, maybe I missed it)
-Improved/Faster way to put players in the lineup (I play with injuries on and it becomes a huge pain to scroll through the list of players)
-Hot/Cold indicators for players a la MLB
-Players asking for FA $ based off stats rather than overall rating (Mason Raymond finished '13 with 8-7-15 as an 80 and asked for $2.9M for 2 years)
-There seems to be a glitch when a player gets hurt and you need to call someone up. After you bring a player to NHL it tells you your NHL lines need fixing. When you go to edit lines, you're stuck on the AHL lines and you can't advance without being forced to choose Best Lines, which becomes a massive pain in the ***)
-Too many injuries (In a matter of 2 weeks in Feb I lost Marty St. Louis, Alex Burrows and Kevin Bieksa for the season, as well as many 2-3 week injuries throughout the season)
-Update the NHL News feed. Separate the news into Call ups/Send downs, injuries, trades, and rumors instead of listing all on one page
-When signing FA's include NTC's and NMC's.
-Incorporation of a chemistry meter for lines
That's all I can think of now but these would really improve the realism of Be a GM mode.Comment
