Anyways.. an alternative would be welcome.

Im not even in the typical NHL market (European, not in a country that has ever been very good in hockey).

An alternative that has more options could compete with EAs product at this point. Also if this Alternative was made with a focus on being available on platforms like Switch you could reach different market parts perhaps?
I'm only speaking for me here but I still play NHL2K10 on PS3. I sometimes jump on CHEL (PS4) but for anything offline it's 2K10 all the way. With slider adjustments you can get a really nice simulation game from it

Do you mind sharing your sliders?
I've meant to grab a copy of 2k10 and try it out

          Lets here your opinions?
I have been saying this ever since 2k folded up their tent. If I could get a fun, well made hockey sim with a season/franchise mode.....I wouldn't care if it was a completely fictional league with fictional players. EAs NHL series is just awful. Sucks bc a good hockey game is honestly my favorite sports video game to play, and now I have none. Well, I have a used copy of NHL 19 that just gets used as a coaster.

I think you're probably in the minority. Most casual gamers expect real life players in sports games unless the games are full out arcade titles.

              Agreed.

However, my favorite game for the PS2 was NHL Hitz Pro, a full out arcade title that I managed to tweak into a pretty good sim experience. So, I suppose it would be possible for a company to release, like you said, a full on arcade game, but have the ability to customize the experience however you like. That would be my dream, haha.

Re: A New NHL Series game.

NHL Hitz Pro with realistic sliders still has a lot of "sim" experiences that have been unrivaled by any other game to date. Mainly, the net front scrambles and shots are simply incredible. They actually look and feel as desperate/intense/chaotic as a real life NHL scramble. People diving to shoot, diving to block, the goalie diving around when tired, the defense filling the net when the goalie is busy trying to recover. The "dump puck" feature in that game is also amazing and incredibly useful! Wish EA would take some ideas from that and implement it in their games.

Could you imagine if NHL Hitz Pro goalies didn't kick out so many ugly rebounds from far out while also being outside of the crease? If they played at modern NHL goalie depths with the ability to control rebounds consistently, as well as if the game had on-the-fly line changing, I honestly the game would be timeless (if it's not already). If that series had one more year to improve, it would've easily been the greatest hockey video game ever made. It still might be, but one more year would've probably solidified it.

I was too young for 94 and I can honestly say I had absolutely 0 fun playing the "rewind" lol, but I know for many it was their first love when it comes to hockey video games. I loved NHL 99 on my N64, that probably solidified my early love for hockey, videogames, and hockey video games.

The original EA Hockey was my first love. Then it was Wayne Gretzky Hockey 2 by Bethesda Softworks on the Amiga 500. The editing capabilities was what got me. I really liked the sim aspect of it and creating plays and players. I actually converted the entire NHL94 roster for WGH2. My first roster edit for any game. LOL.

Re: A New NHL Series game.

Licensing is quite important for casual players.
But if anybody would release a hockey game with no licences but great editor like PES has, then basically the community will create licensed teams, players very quickly.
I would even play some indie hockey game. I mean that I do not need AAA graphics, but great gameplay which is fun and kind of realistic.

It is a pitty that 2k gave up upon NHL series. I bet that if they would not give up, we would have great hockey game here.

For me would be enough if 2k would re-released NHL 2k8 with just current rosters and 32 teams in the franchise and add let the resolution upscale to 4K, make the menu in current gen resolution and sell it on Xbox Series and PS5 and have it cross platform. They could add some My Team mode so they can earn some extra money for this pay to win mode
I would like to see how many people would buy such game where they would put minimal effort. If this would be bought by sufficient number of people, then 2k could invest a bit in upgrading the game for next years.

I mean, they make games like Rugby and Lacrosse, which I'm sure there's a market for but it can't be much larger than Hockey right? What are the sales numbers on those games?
