I know that the 'simple, party-time' theme is what 2K is pushing for, but I couldn't agree less with that.
He said it himself, sports games have gotten very serious. And there's a reason for it.
It's for that reason that NFL2K5 was so successful and put a serious dent into Madden's sales.
It's why the NBA2K series has been widely regarded as the best basketball game for over 5 years.
And it's why NHL2K5 took 50% of the market back in the day.
Now, when EA has finally turned around their hockey series, trying to make a serious, and realistic simulation of hockey and destroyed 2K in sales because of it, they want to go the opposite route?
Really? That's their plan?
But like I said; I know that 2K's developers are going for a realistic, simulation of the game while marketing works on drawing in the simpleton, beer-chugging frat boy.
The problem is, the beer-chugging frat boy probably doesn't have a clue what 2K is. Those kinds of consumers only know name brands. And because 2K's marketing has been as forthcoming as Area 51, I would say they'll lose that battle too.
Come on 2K! Start pumping out REAL information and start touting this game for what it should be, a true simulation of the sport that deserves nothing but respect! Not Party time 2010.
