Reflections/first impressions:
* You definitely feel the defense is improved, it is actually harder just to enter the offensive zone in practice mode.
* I absolutely love the 3D crowd, it makes the presentation so much better. A retexture of this would be interesting.
* The game feels much more polished, the flow is better even though the puck drops at the boards are still there.
* The goalies seem a bit weak. Judging by your posted stats (SV%) and what I tested myself, I beat Canada 87 with Sweden 87 7-2 in 7 minute periods by basically skating into the zone and shooting from distance. I'll try to tweak some sliders and see what I can do to lessen the efficiency of this strategy. I feel it would be nice if it was harder to enter the zone centrally to get a shot away and keepers should be better at catching far away shots from the sides. In my second game I have 7-1 early in the second period with Canucks vs Flames (using my 19/20 roster). The flames goalies have combined to save 36% of the shots at the moment, 5-1 after the first, where I set goalie skill to 100. Game ends 12-2, Flames keepers get 60 SV%, 2/3 periods were at 100 goalie skill. Third game, lowered shooting accuracy to 47 and checking efficiency to 15 (I realize I kind of spam the checking button at times since it is the most efficient way to win the puck). Edmonton vs Toronto. I win 9-1. Toronto has 68 SV%. My keeper actually has 94 SV% on 17 shots which is pretty good. Perhaps just lowering the user shot accuracy will do the trick.
* The backhand shots are still too strong. Don't know if you can effect them individually though.
* The new puck physics are great
* Rebounds are as you say much more alive.
* Flipping the puck is better now.
* Animations of shots etc feel more in place - overall more smooth
* The quick spin around turns (when players drop the puck for instance) that players do are still there
* There can be a lot of dropping the puck
* This is a definite improvement over 0.7.2 - the issues I mentioned except the goalies were already present in the previous version. Playing against the computer is not as not as challenging as 0.5 was though but I might get there by slider tweaking.



Personal opinion:
* As I was afraid, side view is annoying with the camera cuts during play especially the monitor view. It's not a view you see very often in a real broadcast.





Some bug reporting:
* Tested the action cam in the practice mode and the game crashed...
* There's this unknown nr 78 on the Canadiens...






In summary from what I have tested so far, very good job! Again!

When it comes to shooting/goalies there is still one weak spot and that is wrist shot from the distance, close to the centre.
So if you shoot the puck whenever you cross the blue line yeah, you probably score a lot of goals. That's why I just don't do that in an unrealistic fashion, as you can see in these videos.

I actually have the shooting precision covered with codes. I can make players shoot so bad that they shoot towards their own side of the rink Lol , except this spot.
So I decided to let it be as is until I find an all-around solution.

Another weak spot is faceoffs. They are too easy to win for a human player. Or at least for a veteran like me anyway. This can do a lot for the all-around balance and making the game harder.

So my advice is don't try to glitch the game, play it like a hockey or how you would play in real life.

Instead of shooting the puck on the goal every time you enter the zone, dump the puck sometimes... or try to wait for your teammates and pass the puck etc...
That's how I program the A.I. too, I don't tell them to shoot, whenever you can. I want it to feel organic.

That's how I enjoy the simulators in general, it's not about winning at all costs, it's about the journey and immersion

As I said I will see what I can do with the sliders and how it effects the gameplay and difficulty. I know lessening the shot power had an effect on the last version since the shots were weaker when they reached the goal.
What I'm getting at is that the reason you don't play like that in real life is that first it is really hard taking the puck into the zone through the middle and then getting a shot away. Second is shooting from the sides gives the goalie a better angle to stop the shot so it rarely goes in.
So basically what I'm trying to say if you can make it tougher to travel through the middle this cheesy tactic won't be efficient. If you can get the game to force the player to actually play realistic hockey I'd be insanely impressed. In some areas you are already achieving it. As I said, awesome release mate it might be time for me to start that franchise I wanted to play soon.

Help me please!

I really want to try NHL 2KHS, but I can’t download the NHL 2k11 ISO (USA version) anywhere. Everywhere either the image is damaged, or the links are broken. I found only the PAL version - but 2KHS did not go with it (at least for me)

Please share a working link to a working USA version

In order to get a competitive game where you don't get rewarded for the long shots I currently have my settings at default 2KHS settings with these changes:


Shot speed: 15
User checking effectiveness: 0
CPU checking effectiveness: 0
User shot accuracy: 0
User team goalie skill: 100
CPU team goalie skill: 100


These can probably be tweaked a lot but I just lost to Rangers with Vancouver 3-2 OT with these settings. Shots 19-20 on 7 minute periods.

It seems the key to eliminating most of the long shot goals is to lower the shot speed (a lot). It also makes the backhand shots less effective. In order to shoot harder from distance you now need to use the slap shots (that are easier to block/break due to the time it takes to shoot them). Some of the wristers will look very weak but this is the pay cut you need to take in order to make the game more competitive. Even if I played on purpose not shooting from distance I would still score too many. The challenge would be to keep the score down. You can also play with the amount of rebounds from the keepers too.



But I love the game. It's awesome. The animations are smooth now, CPU make some great plays, defense is better. It feels much more polished. It's fun to play!
