For the FA list, there are a bunch of guys on there who are retired or playing in Europe, and a lot of them are overrated as well. (Which buggers up franchise since the CPU teams will all sign them right away.) A good trick for lowering forwards who are in Europe or retired is to change their player type to enforcer. If they have good enforcer attributes already, just lower their fighting, strength, body check, and aggression. I've found that to be the quickest, easiest way to drop their overall quickly. Only works for forwards though, since defensemen can't be enforcers.

With my update I lowered all retired players all the way down on all attributes. I wanted to make sure they don't get signed.

I've also been very careful to avoid the issues that Fiddy and TSOL have encountered with 15 forwards and more than 8 Dmen.

Sounds good. Thanks for the tip on the enforcers. Next update will have some lower rated AHLers in the FA list too.

i never thought of changing the player type. good find!!

but i just like to lower all attributes to nothing so they rated like a 20 or so.

can anybody put together a list of the FA's of players that are retired or in europe so myself and TS can do them?

did you start editing new players yet TS?

I started updating them this morning....probably 1/4 way done...

I know most of the retired players- unsure on the Euros...
I cut the AHL rosters to the min. although I'm leaving 3 goalies on those teams that had them.

I think I'm going to lower them dramatically for anyone over the age of 30....probably unlikely they would return to the NHL after Europe...

Cool. Sounds good. 13 forwards. 8 d-men. 3 goalies (for some teams) should be perfect. That way no call up issues etc.

Okay, so I don't know how many you've done, so I just went through all the Free Agents rated 70+ and did some research:

To make reading it a little easier,
All confirmed UFAs are bolded,
all confirmed on an NHL team are bolded in team colour,
all players in Europe but still belonging to an NHL club are italicized in team colour,
and all players in Europe/AHL/ECHL/etc or retired, who need to have their ratings dropped (to less than 65 overall I would say, lower for retired guys) are italicized.

It is not a big deal but on the Sharks PP you have Heatley as the center and Joe as LW.
