The Caps were the better team today, but the Pens have the smarter fan base. I mean, 70% of those fans were annoyingly stupid. I don't know how the Caps fans on these boards are able to deal with it.

Caps fans will say the same thing about some of the jerks who come to Verizon Center. Such is sports.

Why the NHL continues to bow to NBC, especially considering we're 5 years removed from the lockout now, is beyond me.

Because NBC gives them a national outlet. I mean if its not on versus or NBC...

Yeah I understand that, and coming out of the lockout it made sense. But now with the game in a much better place, it just doesn't make much sense to me to continue giving NBC all this power and allowing them to air games for free when they could get a deal with ESPN or Fox.

Hopefully that's what they do this offseason.

Yeah I understand that, and coming out of the lockout it made sense. But now with the game in a much better place, it just doesn't make much sense to me to continue giving NBC all this power and allowing them to air games for free when they could get a deal with ESPN or Fox.

Hopefully that's what they do this offseason.

You think ESPN or FOX wouldn't dictate which teams played in the Winter Classic? ESPN would scrap the Jan. 1 date altogether because it would conflict with their bowl games.

good times were had last night at the Winter Classic. our seats were awesome, felt bad for those down low etc.

Staal played his azz off last night. great game by him!!

now, scratching Connor was just plain stupid. Asham should have been scratched and the Buzz Line of Kennedy, Letestu, and Connor should have stay in tact. bad move by Disco Dan!!

the Caps just out worked the Pens basically from start to finish. played a solid chippy game, i guess they finally got tired of getting beat on and all the negative press so to speak. bc they played great.

those last few seconds by the Caps ruined the game IMO. i mean honestly, you would have thought they won the Stanley Cup last night. Varly danced like Tom Barrasso did in game 4 of Cup Finals in 92. i understand they were excited but as shown on 24/7 they just dont seem to know how to handle a win. it was i do believe game 40 of the regular season lol.

but i guess in a way, that was their Stanley Cup final. Bowl Game type atmosphere etc. kudos!!

now, the crowd. very soff!! i was expecting it to be great and it was terrible IMO. other than the intial boos for the Caps coming out to warmup and the cheers for when the teams came out to start the game, it was dead. i know one thing, if they have another one with the Pens involved in the next 5 years, i wont be attending. i would have had a better time at home.

great win for the Caps, they needed it. cant wait to see how this plays out on 24/7..

also, we had a family of Caps fans by us, very classy people etc. bs'd the whole time with us. i loved the guys comment on most Caps fans in attendance, he said they wouldn't know a hockey puck if it was in their lap and its embarrassing. lol.. it made me think of Fin's comment about the Caps being the best team. had a great laugh!!

Kind of like when Malkin scored that first goal he act like it was an OT winner. Jumping in to the side line of his teammates. Like he was doing the lambeau leap. I guess the Winter Classic is just a little more important than just two pints. ; ).

That's a funny one.

I wouldn't say it's just a regular season game, but I wouldn't equate it to a playoff game either, let alone a Cup Finals game. It's in between regular season and playoffs. It's a special day, I mean how can it not be seeing as you're playing outdoors, in front of 3 times as many people as usual, tons more coverage and media attention as well. But it still only counts as 2 points. So I can see where Fat Bruce (haha) can be excited, but I think that's a bit overboard.

Read an ESPN.com Burnside article saying there was a row of Caps & Pens fans who were united in their "Flyers suck!" chant at one point during the game. Thought that was funny. It's a nice tri-rivalry going on here. Behind the Pens, I'd say Flyers most heated rival is Washington right now.

I think showing passion like that is good after you win not as you score a first period goal. But I promise if the Pens won and did that you would be defending them.

I just feel that ESPN would be more open to using the Canadian teams. Even if they didn't, at least they'd be getting money from them, whereas NBC is telling the NHL what to do without giving them a cent.

It's two points. Not the Stanley Cup. I wouldn't want the Pens doing that after a regular season win (and they don't). You need to know how to handle wins and losses to stay consistent, and it doesn't seem like the Caps know how to do either.

When Sid made that goal in the shoot out he went pretty crazy in the first WC. You are fan of pens so you guys see know wrong with them. Just like I do with Joe T. Though I finally agree with Hank about Joe T. It is what it is. If Sid and Malkin danced like that you guys Would have said wow sid is a great dancer on skates. .
