Liles gets credit for an assist in second goal for Avs, he has points in all 9 games to start the season, a NHL record for defencemen.

Liles got injured to the dressing room, and Stastny injured now.

Canucks get the win in OT but Avs got a pt after scoring a late goal from Duchene.

I didn't catch the game (or any Flyers games this year as I only have basic cable these days), but it sounds like once O'Donnell took on McCormick, the Flyers really responded. Buffalo put a few in in the 3rd period but it was too little, too late.

Danny Briere is off to his best start in a Flyers uniform. It's funny, his first year was pretty good then the last two regular seasons he was either injured or didn't see as much ice and many were calling for his head (though with the big contract, it wasn't likely he'd be moved). One incredible postseason later, and he's loved once again. I thought he was a softy, but he really took over last year and you can't ignore that. As a fan, I must apologize. I usually don't overreact like the majority of the Philly fanbase, but even I was down on him. He's certainly proven me wrong. Hope he stays healthy!
        NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
        NFL - Buffalo Bills
        MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Unless the Defensemen suddenly develop some speed and skill, that won't be the only time the guy at net will be left out to dry this season. What exactly is Douglas Murray good for? I really want to know.

We have the same defense as last year. I think they will get it going.

It seems like the team has more confidence in Niittymaki. They play better with him in net. Also he bails out the defense when they do mess up. Niemi does not. One mistake and it's in the back of the net. I just wish he would stop giving up those cross pass goals!

I too, wonder Murray's purpose on the team. I guess he hits a lot, which is good, but he has to stop depending on Boyle to bail him out!

Nice win for the Sharks. Big Joe with a hat trick and five points.

You have to look at the change in clientele over the past 30 years.
In the 70's tickets were actually affordable so guys like Johnny Sixpack could afford to go to nearly every game and so could his buddies.
And because the game wasn't as televised as it is today, the majority of hockey fans were those that attended games.

Now, the tickets are so high priced, and with TV's in every home, showing nearly every game, there are a lot more 'white collar' fans within the NHL spectrum.

I don't want to turn this into a debate between blue and white collar denominations, but I would think most blue-collar people don't mind bench clearing brawls and the like. Meanwhile, on the white-collar side, you have people like Michael Eisner who once demanded fighting be removed from the NHL after his 7-year-old son started crying when one of the Might Ducks players got into a tiff.

So saying that, if the NHL was as expensive, covered and televised in the 70's as it is today, you'd have more white-collar fans watching and thus the outrage meter would probably have been equal.

It's true that people 30 years ago weren't as PC, but you still had plenty of bleeding hearts. Wasn't the 70's about love, peace and all the crap?

Caps look strongly meh so far.

Goaltending has been absolutely fantastic. Penalty kill improved greatly and has been at the top of the league all year. The offense has been lackluster for the most part but it will pick up. Alex needs to wake up because he's not doing much except with the body.

Unfortunately, we've had some defense injuries, so our complete lack of depth has showed, and the defense has, at times, looked as bad as it did in 2005 or 2006. I don't understand how McPhee can look at 2 rookies, 2 AHL/ECHL level defensemen (Sloan, Fahey), 2 solid guys (Poti, Schultz - who has looked great, and one guy playing over his head but is really a 6-7 (Erskine) and see a Cup. Unless he makes additions this team will be golfing very quickly...

The top 6, when healthy, could be good enough with an addition of a veteran physical presence. Schultz-Green, Carlson-Alzner, Poti-TRADE can win with the goaltending and offense (at least I think so), but it's just so risky praying that it all falls into place.

Stewart has much as power play goals(3) this year as he did all last year.

Great win for the Wild tonight 2-1 over the Caps.

Backstrom looked real good in net. Had a shutout until Ovie finally snuck one past him with 1:30 left. Only 21 saves, but many were of high quality, including a slick glove save on a Backstrom (the other one) shot with 5 seconds left.

Chris Stewart with a hat trick. Scored 2 goals in a 29second span.

                              Peter Budaj sucks, smh

It's the Blues world now. You are all just living in it.

The team in turning into what I had hoped they were last season. Apparently the kids just needed a year of seasoning. Oshie, Perron and Bergland are all having tremendous starts.

While Halak has been a complete stud, the hero of the team might be Petrangelo (or Jello as he is now being called). The kid is just putting on a show, and has really been the key ingredient in the Blues improved D play.

It was such a big, and fun, win tonight on the road. Nashville had been a pain in the butt, but the tide is turning. Coming off consecutive wins over Chicago and Pittsburgh at home, the team is now rolling with some huge confidence. Two shutouts in a row is not bad, either.
