Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
Yeah, Scott. Flying elbows into a guy's temple causing brain injury are a real joy to watch. That's that "old time hockey" we all love.I will say this I like my hockey like this though. I like it rough and tough. You don't want to get hit keep your head up. I really believe this if you make it the kind of hockey Mario wants you might as well call it an entertainment sport.

I know, but I watched hockey as a kid and I am sure those Flyers teams did a lot of that.

Why has this suddenly turned into a Penguins hate-fest?
It's not the Penguins fault that Cooke continues to be able to play. It's the NHL that continues to slap him on the wrist. Why should the Penguins cut him? He'll just end up on a team playing against them.
There's no getting around it. This game was a disgrace to professional sports as someone put it earlier. And the ones that partook in the most egregious thuggery were the sorry Islanders, who have nothing to play for but revenge.Comment

Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
where do you see Pens fan defending Cookes hit and saying its ok? you making stuff up man.Coming from pens fans that say that was not right, either are Cooke's hit. You get what you give in life some times. And the Pens are now crying about what is happening. Cooke I
Is the biggest cheap shot player in the league. I think the Islanders were showing the Pens how it feels to be cheap shot. Get rid of Cooke and I bet the islanders wouldn't have done what they did. But when you have a dirty player on a team and you got some cheap shots from that dirty player. You can not wait to play that team again. I will say this I like my hockey like this though. I like it rough and tough. You don't want to get hit keep your head up. I really believe this if you make it the kind of hockey Mario wants you might as well call it an entertainment sport. Almost like the ice shows. Have players skateing and deking all over the ice.
get rid of Cooke and that wouldnt have happened with the Islanders? again, come on man lol. it was the Islanders, DP, that took the so called shot at Cooke. he thought it was cute, funny etc. bc of the grin on his face. he found out real quick how funny it was when Johnson wiped that smile off his face. if they didnt like the Talbot hits, thats fine. but the league deemed them clean hits. challenge Talbot face to face, he would be more than happy to fight ya, get beat, then go play hockey.
the Islanders embarrassed themselves that night in Pittsburgh and did so again the other night.
lol at you like your hockey like that? thats not hockey, thats beer league bs.
Mario, wants hockey to be just that, hockey, not an embarrassment like it was that night and even in the Bos/Mon game.
i do agree with ya, you dont want to get hit, keep your head up.
the majority of the hits we see are from the result of the player seeing the other guy coming, but just ignore it like they wont get hit, then cry's when they get smacked. if you see a Matt Cooke coming, and still keep your back to him, then you are part to blame for getting hammered.
would be nice to see the guys in the league carrying the puck or playing the puck be held responsible for putting themselves in that type of situation.
doesnt the rule state, that on plays like that, both players are held accountable? but we never see the player getting hit get fined or suspended for playing careless..Twitch

Come on Tim, if Mario wants to say all he did and has one of the biggest dirty player of the league on his team, then he has to expect some eye rolls. I say he had another reason for this statement. Why has this suddenly turned into a Penguins hate-fest?

You can have a physical game without trying to end someone's life though. What's wrong with a clean check in hockey or a clean hit in football? Nothing, if it's done properly. With what we know today about brain injuries and their long-term effects, anyone who is against rule changes to protect the health of players is better suited watching Roman slaves get fed to lions for their entertainment.
That's true, but there's a Cooke waiting to happen on almost every team, they just haven't pulled their cheap shots...yet. More guys will be encouraged to be like Cooke until people who have clout start speaking up. Until then, expect more ridiculous displays like the one we had in this game.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 02-14-2011, 01:19 PM.Comment

I look at it like this they make a lot of money, so the risks are up to them. I look at it a risky sport, but I do agree about head shots though I just like phyiscal sports. You can have a physical game without trying to end someone's life though. Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
lmao as stated 2 times already, Pens cut Cooke, teams lined up to sign him. more than likely your Sharks would be in that line!!
actually no lol.. you didnt see flying elbows and runs from behind all the time. they just get in your face and make you man up and fight.
so with that said, you dont like what you watch each night you watch the Sharks. bc you dont see that on a night in and out basis. seems like you love beer league hockey and not the NHL. guys like Mario etc dont want the game to change, they want the headshots and lack of respect gone from the league. they want those that do that to be punished more than they are now. held more accountable. sheesh!!Twitch

Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
This is all I'm saying. Mario employs Cooke so his statements have some hypocrisy, but the real issue is that the NHL lets these cheapshot artists do whatever want to do. It's not just Cooke. It's a league-wide trend. Why has this suddenly turned into a Penguins hate-fest?
