Predicted matchups for the next 3 Heritage Classics (whenever they may be):

    Toronto (or Montreal) @ Vancouver
    Boston @ Montreal
    Detroit @ Toronto

If the Heritage Classic continues, I'm pretty sure it will only feature Canadian teams, just as NBC will make sure the Winter Classic only features American teams.

I just hope we get better locales than CFL stadiums. They could be the most boring buildings ever.

Put it in the Skydome, or the Rideau Canal. Somewhere besides a CFL stadium that looks as unique as a wet cloth.

You're half right. Canadian teams will never participate in a Winter Classic. As you said, TV dictates the matchups, and CBC would happily sign off on DET/TOR or BOS/MTL.

Almost certainly going to be Rangers/Flyers. Uncensored Torts, Avery, and Pronger on HBO = win.

Rogers Centre (which doubles as a CFL stadium anyway) isn't exactly a step up in that regard. Talk about looking dull on TV. I always prefer to watch the Jays on the road instead (unless they're in Tampa).

There's been lots of fan talk about the Rideau Canal, but could it actually be used for an NHL game? If so, how many bleachers could be set up?

It'd have to be BC Place (the ridiculously overpriced retractable roof will be operational by this October) because a.) they'd be able to close it if it was ridiculously warm/rainy, and b.) they'd squeeze 60,000 into it.

Would it look great on TV? I'd have to watch a Lions/Whitecaps game there with an open roof first, but I doubt it. Would it make a ridiculous amount of cash? Yes. Is this the right time for Vancouver to host it, considering the Canucks are contenders? Yes.

EDIT: Did I use the word "ridiculous" way too much in this post? Yes.

Thanks for the answer and yeah, I'm not a big fan of BC Place having a retractable roof. A better option would've been a new stadium for the Lions/Whitecaps. I actually liked the new Empire Field they played in last year but well, that's not germane to the topic.

Do you know how much the taxpayer-funded roof is gonna cost? 500 million dollars!!! Half a billion dollars to put a new roof on a POS stadium that hosts a pair of minor league teams! And the provincial government waited until AFTER the Olympics! And the party in power is supposedly the "fiscally conservative" one!

Truly the biggest waste of sports-related money ever. Government corruption at its finest. As a BC taxpayer, I'd have rather given the money to Quebec City to build their new arena.

Ratings for yesterday's "Hockey Day in America" were pretty good, another increase over 2 years ago. I loved all the hockey on NBC yesterday!

I agree. I can't stand to watch the Jays or Rays at home. The Rogers Center field looks like a collection of carpet remnants stapled together.
Baseball was meant to be played on grass and dirt and in the outdoors.

But I think I'd still prefer to see them play a game with the roof opened rather than a CFL stadium.

Regarding the Canal, I wondered about the bleachers too. But maybe this could be a unique situation where only a few thousand (or hundred) seats are put up. But then I guess that would defeat the purpose of gaining millions of dollars from large seated venues.

They were all pretty good games too, at least the ones I got (Wings @ Wild and Pens @ Hawks).
