Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
So no suspension for Chara. Whatever, all I care about is a speedy recovery for a 22 year old, forget everything else. What's unfortunate is that he was finally finding his game this season, and I'll be amazed if he would come back for the playoffs (I highly highly doubt it with that injury).
On another note, it's about time Montreal signs some goons to their squad to shutup that pig Horton and that hunchback Lucic who still try fighting after the events that occurred and being down 4-1.
Then again, while what I write seems like I'm really pissed off, a little part inside of me is happy since this just adds more fuel to the rivalry. Gotta love hockey!Comment

So true.
What I don't like about playoff races since the loser point is it just seems like the race turns into this glob of mediocre teams playing for overtime. Completely devalues a nice regulation win.Comment

Couldn't agree more.
Look at the Leafs. 2 weeks ago Leaf Nation was going nuts because they were only 5 points back.
Fast forward 14 days later and they only gained 1 point despite going 5-1-4 in their last 10.
It's nearly impossible to gain ground because everyone this time of year heads into OT and gets that on garbage point.
The NHL loves it this way because it means they can show that 27 of 30 teams were above .500. It creates the allusion that everyone is in it and it helps sell tickets and hope.
But I'd love to go to a 2 points for regulation/OT win, 1 point for SO win and ZERO points for any kind of loss.Comment

Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
I AT LEAST expected something like a 3 game suspension. You know, just a little slap on the wrist but not disciplining him at all looks really bad. Now i'm no Habs fan but someone in those shoes can legitimately make the case that the league is showing a ton of bias.
Oh well....I sure hope Pacioretty is able to make a quick and full recovery. Looking at the injury he suffered I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play for another full calendar year.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Of course, the Leafs are helped as much as hurt by the 3-point games. In reality, they won 5 games and lost 5 games; they shouldn't be making up ground with that record.
Good to see my years of pimping this system (I've been ranting about it to whoever would listen since 2006, even prepared a 2-page document on it when Bill Daly visited EAC way back when) are paying off! I'll convert everybody before I'm through!Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
I realize you can't determine intent and I personally don't think Chara is a dirty player, but if I go out and hit someone with my car, even if it wasn't my intent at all and it was an accident, I'm still going to get punished for what happened.
I guess we're just going to wait and twiddle our thumbs until someone dies before we really change the rules/punishment for these types of things. Just the same way there was never any netting above the glass at each end of the ice until someone was killed by a puck getting over the glass (the netting was put up a day later BTW).Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. That's the way I see it also. While he isn't a dirty player and I'm sure he did not intend to injure him (then again, we'll never know), he is still responsible for his actions. And it is true, the same bump that Chara gave happens all the time in the game, but Chara's been in the league long enough to know where he is on the ice. It's time to show a little respect to your fellow hockey players.I realize you can't determine intent and I personally don't think Chara is a dirty player, but if I go out and hit someone with my car, even if it wasn't my intent at all and it was an accident, I'm still going to get punished for what happened.

To all those saying the league is getting too soft, maybe you're right; maybe the league is softer than it was thirty years ago. But don't forget the players of today are double the size (body size + equipment) and the game is played at a much faster pace. When someone is paralyzed or killed during a game I'm sure we'll all be on the same page.Comment

The league really does need to do away with these "three point" games. Sure I'm a Leafs fan, but this team doesn't deserve to be in the playoff hunt after losing games.
It's stupid to me that New Jersey has one more win than Toronto but is four points back (with a game in hand).
Should be zero points for any type of loss.Comment

Re: The Official 2010-11 Regular Season Talk Thread
Agreed, but it isn't going to happen. Bettman is going to point to the fact that basically every team not named the Oilers is in the playoff hunt ("Look at all the parity! It's so great for the league!").The league really does need to do away with these "three point" games. can't believe chara didn't get any type of punishment. he knew what he was doing. there's no way that wasn't a dirty hit. i've lost a lot of respect for him. chara shouldn't be putting himself in those kind of situations because he is supposed to be the leader of that team. stupid NHL not suspending him. the players know where that turnbuckle is. oh well, at least Pacioretty is alright.... oh wait.Comment

Agreed. Exactly what Cooke and Gillies think about the guys they hammer. They were just in wrong place at the wrong time.
