I don't see the Sharks recovering from this. Good luck against Vancouver. Should be a great one!

    Another year another fail.

Calm down, the Canucks just did the exact same thing against the team that haunted their nightmares, and they managed to win Game 7 in their barn.

I never, ever bet against the home team in a Game 7. Same thing applies here. Very happy to see the Wings punch back and show heart that wasn't there the first three games, but I think the Sharks will win on Thursday.

It is anybodies game. Both teams are in must win mode. I think having Clowe back and being home will do well for the Sharks. but if they lose it does suck but every game has been close and Detroit is a dang good team! So here is to a great game Thursday!

I'd be shocked if the Sharks win. With the way they have choked over the years, combined with the Red Wings experience and momentum...I'd be stunned if the Sharks managed to pull it out.

              Different year, same results.

I'm not sure exactly what you meant, but I think I did.

The reason they would/should get rid of their core guys like Thornton, Marleau, Heatley if they lose Game 7 is because those guys have had years to contend for a Cup and all they've done (with maybe the exception of last season) is choke and choke and choke.

They've had plenty of chances and come up short every time. There's been so many times the Sharks have needed those top guys to show up and they haven't. Thornton has improved a bit when it comes to his play in the playoffs, but if they're counting on him to lead the way, it probably isn't going to work out.

At some point it's just time to accept the current set-up isn't going to work and that it's time to move on.

Also, the Sharks are in a good position with the way their team is set up. A rebuild would be more of a re-tooling because they've drafted well and have guys like Setoguchi, Pavelski and Couture to be the future of the team. I don't think Couture has been too bad so far (talking playoffs; he was great in the regular season) and Seto and Pavelski have already proven they can actually step up in big games.

But of course all of this is irrelevant if the Sharks do just what the Canucks did and avoid the monumental collapse. The interesting thing to see will be who steps it up from San Jose's side.

They'd be lucky to be able to unload ONE of those contracts, let alone all three.

They never should've re-signed Marleau. The money they spent on him could've been much more useful elsewhere. He's been a joke this entire series. Thornton and Heatley haven't been much better, but ZERO points from Marleau in six games? ONE shot after being publically called out? The dude's a giant *****cat.

The funny thing is he was the one Shark who was even remotely competent in the WCF last year against Chicago. I guess it would've looked bad if they let him go after he was the only guy who showed up at the end last season?

Absolutely not worth 6.9 million dollars.

Thank you for being the voice of reason. There's a hard salary cap, people. If your team gives long-term contracts to a bunch of expensive underachievers, you're pretty much stuck with them.

They're stuck with Marleau and probably Heatley as well, but I think they could get rid of Thornton. Maybe I'm wrong though.

There are two types of teams in the NHL: those that already spend at or above the salary cap, and those that have an internal budget that prevents them from doing so.

Brad Richards, who has a much better reputation than Thornton, is only affordable for 2 or 3 teams, and he's a UFA who won't cost prospects. San Jose would have to take someone else's pricey failures back. I'm sure Calgary would take Thornton in exchange for Jay Bouwmeester, for example.

I also wouldn't underestimate Detroit in a game 7 though. All their players have experience. Most of them are champions. They know what it takes to win big games.

I'm staying out of the fray and laying low, because for now, it seems to be working...I'll be hefting some beers with you guys Thursday night, but can't break up the OS black-out now. Cheers.

So did Chicago. I don't think anyone's underestimating Detroit.

Honestly I don't even think the home ice will matter. I just have a horrible feeling about the next game, and it's still a day and a half away.
