Well his last name is French, perhaps he gets a pass based on that. That some Montreal speak French or else zealots had some sort of protest over their non French speaking new coach speaks volumes about how bat **** crazy people from Quebec are.Comment

None of this crap has any place in hockey—or around the Habs. The Canadiens have always been a team supported by a wide range of people and it's total garbage for these wingnuts to hijack the team as a mouthpiece for their own agenda. In the end it just hurts the organization. Players don't want to play in Montreal because of the accompanying media sideshow and the crazy management trying to please this extremist branch of Quebec society.Comment

How rare is it for someone to get traded mid-game? I know it doesn't happen often.Boston Red Sox

According to some of the posters on HF Boards it has happened. They were talking about a trade that was announced by the broadcast booth guys while the players were still on the ice.Comment

Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread
Not all of them, but historically there has been a large xenophobic group of French Canadians. My background and my family on my father's side are francophones from Montreal but don't believe in any of the seperatist gospel. There are hard-liners in Quebec who actually feel less challenged by Anglais culture now than they do the increasing irrelevence of their culture in an increasingly multicultural Quebec and Canada at large.

Though, with the good comes the bad: the separatist idiots protesting in front of the Bell Centre. Then they wonder why the team looks like a circus act from the outside. It is disrespectful to the players and the coach when rather than getting behind the team, they are complaining about the lacking of French Canadian players on the roster, or that the coach cannot address the media in French. Disgusting.
Slowly, slowly the media is tearing the team apart. I'm not a Habs fan by any means, but it saddens me watching this mess unfold.Comment

Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread
As for the trade, I do believe Calgary won this one (not by a huge margin though). Sure, Cammy's game fell off over the past couple of seasons but perhaps it was due to the match ups he was facing. He needs less focus on him to be successful; playing with Iginla two years ago he had the time and space to notch 39 goals. If he could get his game back to that level, he will indeed be a great help.
Now when I first heard of the trade last night, I started laughing. My first thought was that they got Bourque to ease the protesting French Canadian fans (unfortunately he's not from Quebec nor can he speak the language). I don't know how many of you's have watched Bourque play, but he's an extremely streaky player. Someone compared him to Kovalev which is pretty spot on; he'll score four goals in one game then he won't touch the score sheet for the next ten. Sure he's a big player (pylon lol) who can get in front of the net, but who's gonna shoot the puck to the front? Hal Gill? Josh Gorges? Or Subban, who seems to aim at the legs of his defenders rather than the net.
The only positive sign for the Habs is that they dumped a bit of salary and managed a second round pick. The negative, this team won't compete for the next couple of seasons. The problem, Habs fans think the team can make the Stanley Cup with guys like Darche playing on the powerplay.
On a personal note, in any other city, what Cammy said would be seen as him calling out his players (and himself) to be better on the ice. Sure he complained about ice time, but is he the first player to ever complain? Unfortunately, in Montreal the truth gets you booted out, which in this case seemed to work out for the player.Comment

Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread
Why? Wings vs. Leafs is a classic original 6 matchup. It will make more sense as an event with an alumni game and the history between those players. Will be also be a huge draw for Leaf fans in Southern Ontario.Comment
