So about a month? I guess like others have said, even of they start late, will it really matter? In fact, it could make the regular season more interesting...
As a Flyers fan, I'm not worried about it. I'm watching for the destination (motha****in' Cup) than the journey. I'm pretty sure Flyers are a top 8 team in the East through 60 games.
It'll be bad press, but should totally be looked at as a viable option. Cutting the season by 10-20 games, that is.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
This will kill hockey for all the casual fans they have gained back since the lockout a few years ago.
Oh well as long as they continue to show every playoff game on tv I'll be happy. Plus as a Kings fan a lockout works out well for a full off-season for the Kings.NHL: Vegas Golden Knights
NCAAF: Ohio State
NFL: Minnesota Vikings
MLB: Chicago CubsComment

Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
Losing a full season might. Losing October & November won't.
Is the league really going to flush $200M of NBC's money down the toilet? Doubtful.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
You hope the players and owners would be smart enough to see the damage of a long-lasting lockout. Hopefully the reality of the effects of the last lockout start coming into the minds of those in charge as it gets closer to time to play hockey.NHL: Vegas Golden Knights

Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
I started watching hockey a few years ago because my father in law loves the game. I've paid attention during the off-season to make sure I can follow the league this coming season. I'll be beyond disappointed if the season is lost. This will kill hockey for all the casual fans they have gained back since the lockout a few years ago.

Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
Honestly, I don't think "the effects of the last lockout" will factor in at all. The negative effects of the last lockout have been overblown. Quality of play improved. Players are making more money, and at a younger age. Owners are making way more money than before. Yes, it's true that another lengthy lockout will be bad for the fringe markets; of course, it's those same fringe markets who are pushing hardest for radical CBA changes.
This lockout won't last more than 2-3 months, but it's not because they're worried about the effects of the last one; it's because the game is in much healthier shape than October 2004, and there's much more to lose this time.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
I hope the lockout doesn't happen, not because of the fact we could miss games, but because I don't want to hear all the silly talk about how the NHL is going to lose a lot of fans.
They cancelled a whole season and the NHL has never been more popular.
I always get a chuckle when people say if another strike/lockout happens they will no longer follow/support the sport because 99% of these people are full of ****.Comment

Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
To put my own spin on what others have said....
The reason I stopped following the NBA after the lockout is because the league has progressively deteriorated to a certain few teams competing every year, flopping, etc. Not because there was a lockout. That's ridiculous.
Minnesota signed Parise and Suter.
Carolina extended Skinner, got Staal and signed Semin.
Nashville just matched a 110M+ offer sheet.
Tampa Bay signed Matt Carle.
Florida made the playoffs last year.
Weren't these the teams that were in need of saving in 2004?
Whereas, the Habs are in a state of peril, the Leafs have the best shot at the #1 overall pick if there's a lockout, and the cap has limited teams like Colorado from stacking up ridiculously like years ago.
The league has never been better. Short of whatever B*@#&%*t that trapezoid is, hockey the way it is now is amazing. Everyone is making money, the players, the owners, everyone.SpoilerExcept Phoenix
There won't be a long lockout. Bettman is pretty stupid, but not THAT stupid.Last edited by AC; 08-09-2012, 08:02 PM."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
Cap isn't preventing the Avs from doing anything ... They've had plenty of room under the cap for years, but ownership refuses to spend the money. As a fan, that is very frustrating, especially when ownership expects you to shell out over $100 for lower-level seats. To put my own spin on what others have said....

It's preventing from them (and others) from making an all-star team lol. Creates balance, with the floor.
You're talking to a Leaf fan...
Our UPPER level seats are minimum $90.

Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
Minnesota needed to be saved in 2004? Nope.
I would like to apologize to all you hockey fans that the Minnesota franchise curse has to affect everyone. This state's teams can't have nice things without something stupid happening.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 08-09-2012, 10:18 PM.Comment
