Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
I will admit to banging on the glass the one and only time I had a Row 1 seat (New Year's Eve 1989, Flyers @ Canucks). Even better, I was right by a 2-inch-wide seam in the glass, perfect for heckling. Among the highlights:
- mocking Keith Acton during the warmup (he was the only one with a helmet on, and the other Flyers seemed to be playfully jostling him) to the extent that he came over, swore at us with a big smile on his face, and kicked the boards a few times
- making a player (Igor Larionov) look during a faceoff; doubtless, he was surprised, as in Soviet Russia, I'm guessing the glass banged you
- harassing Pete Peeters non-stop in the 1st and 3rd periods (occasionally with an air horn)
- Jim Sandlak crushed Kjell Samuelsson so hard into the boards where we were that a chunk of Samuelsson's hork flew over the glass onto my buddy's shoulder
I will also admit to banging on the glass when sitting right up front, but I've only ever sat that close at a minor league game (Plymouth Whalers, OHL - holler!!!). I know it's stupid, but I dunno...I just felt compelled. No cool stories like Doc, though - I mean, it's not that fun to heckle a bunch of largely anonymous 18-year-olds, especially when you have no idea what their names are and their billet moms are probably sitting 10 feet away from you. Mostly I was just surprised by how big the players were and how friggin' hard they hit that plexiglass. That, and I definitely flinched big-time every time a puck got shot into the glass...that cost me a hell of a lot of beers for non-manliness, lemme tell you....Comment

Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread
For you younger types, the first period of FLA/NJ is what a lot of 1st-round series used to look like in the 80s, when some teams were wayyyyy better than their opponents.
Trying to think of the last playoff team that was worse than this year's Panthers. '01 Hurricanes? '97 Habs?Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
