Oilers have given up 4 goals so far tonight. Thought I would bring back this classic from Kevin Lowe

Edmonton is proof positive that you can have all the high draft picks you want, but if you have horrendous management, coaching, scouting, and playing culture, you're going to continue being a complete disaster and embarrassment.
Take note, Buffalo.Comment

I just don't see how Edmonton could draft Eichel or McDavid without acquiring some defense first. I don't know if there's a bonafide defense prospect this year, but if there's not, they have to trade some of their current young talent for some D, or something.
The Edmonton fans seem to be clamoring for two things: Eakins fired, and McDavid/Eichel
They have to see the problem there, don't they? 5, 5, 6, 7. 23 goals given up in 4 games, jeez...University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: The Official 2014-15 Regular Season Talk Thread
I assume they could get a pretty good package for one of those young forwards. Someone would be willing to part with either some decent defensemen or at least prospects. Isn't the problem in EDM more about all players being similar minded? Some team will definitely pay (and probably overpay) for a change of scenery for one of those kids. Could probably work out for both parties, too.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

The Yakupov draft was a joke. They missed out on so many top defensive prospects in that draft that they could have taken instead of Yakupov.Originally posted by XXstormmXXThe reason I always root for multiple teams is because if one team doesn't make the playoffs or gets eliminated, I loose interest in the sport until next season if my team gets eliminated early. Re: The Official 2014-15 Regular Season Talk Thread
A bit off topic, but figured I'd get better chance of response here:
A question regarding drafting players in NHL video game....how long do you have to sign them? When I draft guys,it says I have 3 years to sign them or else they'd hit UFA status,so does that mean regardless if a guy is 19 or 21, I can just keep him unsigned until the season he's gonna hit UFA status, and then just sign him from there? Or might the game just automatically release them into FA pool or back to draft pool after a year or two if they hit a certain age or something?Comment

Sports fans think that real life operates like a video game now. They think they can draft their way into success. "Chemistry doesn't matter!" "Coaching and management are overrated" "Losing? Just lose all the way and get the best pick!"
It's the NBA2K-ification of sports with more than a little dash of fantasy influence.Comment

Re: The Official 2014-15 Regular Season Talk Thread
As for Edmonton, I think Eakins was a bad fit for the team MacTavish gave him. The Marlies were a way different style of team. They should have kept moving forward with Ralph Kreuger; at least he had them on the upswing. Ultimately, the goaltending has been subpar and team defense is a foreign concept to them. Everyone keeps saying they need defensemen, but you can have all the defensemen you want and if the forwards don't help, you will not make the playoffs. IMO you have to take the best player in each draft, and Yakupov was the best player by my calculation that year. If they wanted a defensemen in the 1st round that year, they could have dropped a few spots and gotten one of Dumba or Reilly. They got Nurse the following year; hopefully they can develop him. At the end of the day, my prediction from two years ago when I said Edmonton would be a repeat of what Florida did in the mid-00s is coming closer to reality.Comment
