Canadian teams almost never host games on Thanksgiving Monday up here. Maybe it's something in the CBA to allow players on Canadian teams a "family day"? Can't imagine it's because there are CFL games.

Montreal and Ottawa both have away games, so don't think it's about the players. Probably more about not wanting season ticket holders to have to make a decision to go to the game or hang out with family.

Speaking of scheduling - why in the world do the Wild have 5 days off right now?

Yeah it's bizarre that I have to watch the Sabres get annihilated during the day today. Start time threw me for a loop. Weird.

Then how else should, lets say, an expansion team grow? If teams lose, and then get punished by not being able to shot at top talent in the draft, the franchise will never get anywhere. Losing has plenty of downside: it makes it tough to attract free agents, it hurts financially, it puts a strain on the casual fanbase, it can lead to stunted development of players and other ill effects. While I do agree that rooting for your team to lose is wrong especially at the beginning and for an entire season, there has to be a way for a bad team to get better other than throwing buttloads of money at free agents.

I think he was referring more so to teams that intentionally tank than teams that try as much as possible but just plain suck.

About to leave for the Bolts game in a few. Can't wait. It's not much of a revenge but I really really would like an early W against Montreal.

Have good management and scouting so you don't *have* to have a #1 pick to find someone worth a damn, encourage a positive culture so that young players you already do have don't get discouraged and continue to develop instead of pushing to leave town, and show to free agents that despite the temporary lack of success, your team, franchise, city and fanbase are the place to be. Sabres fans are openly happy about losing. What message does that send to a Zemgus Girgensons, a Rasmus Ristolainen, a Nikita Zadorov?

If draft picks were the cure to every sports franchise's ills, perpetual laughing stocks would be perpetual world champions.

Tried watching Ottawa-Florida for a while, the Panthers are not very good...

And the stands make it look like a high school hockey game.
