Pretty sure the Sabres are the only one that regularly play the Canadian anthem when they host another American team.

The Rangers do this as well. When Toronto came to town they played it.

Yeah I think most teams play the Canadian anthem when playing a Canadian team. I know the Flyers do.
            NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
            NFL - Buffalo Bills
            MLB - Cincinnati Reds

I'm pretty sure every American team plays the Canadian anthem when a Canadian team is visiting. I'd never heard of any American team playing the Canadian anthem when playing another American team until Doc mentioned Buffalo.

My best guess would be because they're right on the border. Makes me wonder if Minnesota does too. I figure our resident Southern Canada habitants would've chimed in if so.

I almost thought Flyers always do it because they did earlier this season, but I forgot we were playing the Canadiens. And it was our homer opener.

I really love their national anthem.

No, it's exactly as Psy said. I also didn't know Buffalo played it every night.

Only other team I've heard of doing that is Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

There's almost certainly a higher percentage of cross-border fans at Sabres games than any other North American franchise. Buffalo is where people in southern Ontario go to watch NHL games for cheap.

Canadians also make up 15-20% of the Bills ticket season base. Which is partly why the Bills games in Toronto were a dud, because the ticket prices were double to triple what they are in Orchard Park.

I doubt there are a ton of Canadians at Wild games, both because their ticket prices are high for a US team, and Manitoba/western Ontario don't have nearly the population density of southern Ontario (Buffalo, Detroit) or southwestern BC (Seattle).

Bills in Toronto failed for so many reasons
                      1.Bills weren't even Toronto/Canadas fave team
2.Ticket prices were so much(they actually made Leafs games look reasonable)
                      3.Bills aren't good
4.No real attention/promotion payed to the game(compared to NFL in London for example, where there's extra promotion/coverage for it. NFL in Toronto was just like any regular NFL game, but in Toronto. I even forgot there was a Bills game in Toronto one year and I'm from Toronto(though I'm not a Bills fan))

NFL should have an annual game in Toronto, but have made it like they do for London. Diff teams every year, and make it happen in September-October. You're not gonna draw alot of interest from people in Toronto if they have to drive through lots of traffic and snow(since it's December),paying so much for tickets, and then watching 1-2 teams that aren't even good playing against each other.

Merchandise wise, Bills aren't even in top 5,they barely cracked the top 10, but even that I'd say is just cause of the TV coverage they get in Canada cause they're close to the border so Toronto stations ALWAYS broadcast the Bills(and CBS feed is from Buffalo,so we're forced to have Bills games or blackouts instead of other teams playing). As someone who doesn't watch the Bills, it's annoying having so many sports channels but majority of them have Bills games and only like 3-4 others have other teams games(though even then,it's mostly Pats,Dolphins,Jets)

lol, just realized this is the NHL section and we're going so off topic.

Speaking of ticket prices, this was released today (WTF, Boston?):

The 2015-16 NHL Fan Cost Index® was originally published in Jan 2016 without an analysis article. We have written some notes as part of our 2019 refresh of TMR. Interested to see what they do with Granlund. I'm hoping they can convince him to sign for more than a couple years. Guessing he'll have a new deal within the next couple weeks.

Man, I feel real bad for Buffalo. Being outscored by Rick Nash and all.

In other news, I'm pretty disappointed in this Devils roster. 2 leads lost in 6 games doesn't bode well.

Like Russo was talking about in one of his blogs a couple weeks ago, I think it's in the best interest of both parties to do a 2, maybe 3, year bridge deal. We need to see Granlund stay healthy for a while, IMO, and get further away from those concussions. God forbid those come back, and you have a guy locked in long term who is always hurt.

Just makes sense on his end, too. He's got an opportunity to pull down a ton of cash in a few years if his development continues to go the way it has thus far.

I do like how Fletch has scheduled these contracts, though. Nino got 3 years, Coyle 5, Brodin 6. Setting it up nicely so there will (most years) just be one big guy to re-sign down the road. Assuming everything goes according to plan and they all develop, of course.
