I was recently traveling home from Canada and the customs guy asked if I had anything to declare. I said, "Yeah! You guys make great maple syrup!"

Did the guy even crack a smile? My interactions with customs people are that they give off the distinct impression that they've heard it all before and do not take kindly to jokes. Depending on their mood, they will even detain you/waste your time intentionally with additional screening if they find someone particularly annoying. But then, Europe, US, Asia are different than Canadia...

On another note, being out-of-market of my home team, I haven't gotten a chance to watch the Red Wings extensively this season much at all. Now that I've seen a handful of their games, I have to say....it's not looking so good. There are nights where they barely look like a professional team. I admire the consistency and unity of philosophy in the front office, but all things run their course eventually, and I wonder if it might be time to try some new voices and ideas in the front office? It's the changing of eras coming up soon for the team anyway, might be a convenient time to make a clean break and start on a new direction.

I don't say this as the standard Joe-Sixpack "blow it up" criticism when things aren't going swimmingly, but we've had the same management for 20 years. All things must pass....

Speaking of which, the Columbus streak is nuts, but the pic on nhl.com after their victory against Boston looks like something out of the Awkward Family Photos site!

WHAT THE **** is going with these refs lately? This is the SECOND GAME THIS WEEK where 2 guys are willing to go at it but the linesmen have stepped in to break it up. Did the NHL ban fighting and I completely miss it?

Leafs now won 4 straight,and have gotten 12 of a possible 16 points in their last 8 games. 14-8-4 since start of November. Still 3 behind Bruins but 3 games in hand. Also 5 behind Sens and Flyers, with 1 game on Sens and 2 on Flyers. They're also in the top half of the league in point%(including being ahead of Boston for that division playoff spot).

That'd be dream scenario for playoffs. Leafs-Sens in rd1, winner plays Habs in rd2.
