Re: The Official 2016-17 Regular Season Talk Thread
Leafs blow another 3rd period lead and lose again in a shootout! This is getting ridiculous. They're trying to lose at least a shootout each month lol.
Ya, let's not have tie games, decide meaningful games by a stupid gimmick where 85% of your roster isn't needed.Last edited by Majingir; 03-03-2017, 01:36 AM.Comment

Didn't they still get as many points as they would have with a tie?Comment

Re: The Official 2016-17 Regular Season Talk Thread
Leafs are currently 1pt out of WC and 4 out of 3rd in division(6 behind 2nd), there's also only 2pts separating them the 9 seed and Flyers the 12 seed.
If NHL had ties and no shootouts, Leafs would be same position in WC, but just 3 behind 2nd and 3rd in division. And they'd be 4 points ahead of the 10 seed.Comment

If your complaint is about the overtime/SO structure as is you won't get a complaint out of me but you can't use one game to make the argument.
The leafs also need to get better at shootouts because that's the world we're in. The Red Wings who aren't going to make the playoffs have yet to lose a shootout. I have to imagine the Leafs can find a way to win more than one shootout.Comment

Either way, it still does nothing to solve the ultimate problem which is the three point game.
It just funny because last year when the Leafs benefited from shootout wins more than almost any other team we never heard you complaining about them but this year when they suck at them it's all of a sudden a problem to you.Comment

Re: The Official 2016-17 Regular Season Talk Thread
I've always hated the shootout, since day 1(coincidentally enough, Leafs were in the first ever shootout after NHL implemented it from the lockout. No surprise, they lost it. I've hated it since then)
I even made a post last season about basically same topic(that if 3 on 3 got enough positive reviews, they'd consider making it 10 mins instead). So my opinions on shootouts haven't really changed. 3 on 3 though have helped find an alternative to it.
Last season only 39% of OT games went to a shootout(compared to over 55% the prior season). Right now we're back to around 50%. 10 min OT makes it harder for teams to strategize to get a game into a shootout.Comment

Just around 17 games left for most teams, playoff races still so close! Gonna be going back and forth for that final WC spot in East. And 3rd in Atlantic.
Still holding out for Leafs-Sens in 1st round. We might also get Battle of Alberta, California matchup with Ducks and Sharks, and Habs-Bruins, all in first round! Very realistic possibilities on all of those. So much hockey left to be played still, but a number of nice possibilities.Comment

Bobrovsky got his third straight shutout win last night. Blue Jackets are looking solid, though the backline needs to tighten up can't have opponents getting 33 shots on Bob.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Have barely watched since the WBC started and I tune in today and realize that Tampa Bay is only one point out of a playoff spot?!Comment
