So I guess we can congratulate Russia(KHL) on the 2018 mens hockey gold medal?

Who'd even be on team Canada/USA and other countries? Will we just see the AHL/CHL guys on Canada and AHL/NCAA guys on USA?

What has consistently been the #1 draw in my opinion of the entire Olympics (summer or winter) and the only event that I actually truly ever invested in emotionally, is no more.

I'm sure there are some rational analyses of what happened here, but right now I'm a bit too disappointed to be objective. It's like if they cancelled the World Cup or something (of soccer, smart-alecs...).

Re: The Official 2016-17 Regular Season Talk Thread

No NHL in Olympics will suck alot, but at same time, you know TV audiences won't be big anyways due to time difference.

2014 in Russia, night games in Moscow were afternoon here
2010 in Vancouver obviously just west coast time so not big difference
2006 in Italy it was off abit more, but cellphones checking scores and stuff wasn't as common
2002 in Salt Lake, again a NA time zone
1998 in Nagano, 13 hour time difference but it was the first one with NHL guys and before internet use was common so people didn't know scores as much

So really outside of 2006, no other Olympics has faced the real inconvenience for fans as this upcoming one(and even in China) will face.

Maybe NHL actually decides to push the womens hockey alot more next year? Try to send a message to the IOC by making the womens hockey outshine the non NHL mens tournament.

6 days left in the regular season! Toady is day 1 of Leafs playoff clinching days! Leafs win of any kind and Lightning regulation loss would clinch a playoff spot for the Leafs! Or Leafs win in regulation/OT and Tampa does no better than OTL, Leafs clinch too! If any other result happens, then Leafs can clinch by winning in regulation on Thursday....vs Tampa!

Matt Duchene has 37 points? What happened? He's too good for that.

Tonight, day 2 of Leafs playoff clinching days. Biggest game of season. Win and they're in(they have small chance of getting in should game go to OT and Islanders lose their game). Lose(especially in regulation) and then they have 2 games left(vs Pens/Jackets), hoping to win one of those games or hoping Islanders and/or Lightning lose one of their final 2 games.

Don't want that crazy amount of stress on the weekend, just get the job done tonight! At home, facing Tampa(who Leafs beat 5-0 a few weeks ago), a chance to clinch a playoff spot on home ice.

Connor McDavid's highlights all seem the same to me, where he uses his speed burst to get a step on the defender then physically dominates them and then just puts the puck around the goalie. It's uncanny.

I'm most excited to see him in the playoffs. I'm sure Oilers playoff games will be 10PM puck drops so hopefully they get through a round or two so I can see him live. That kid is just incredible, so worthy of the hype he received and looking like a true heir (along with Matthews) to the Crosby throne.

Watching your favorite team in the playoffs is obviously the greatest, but being able to sit back and just enjoy ALL the games isn't a bad consolation prize.

For what it's worth, the Caps and Pens are the class of the East to me, but I think the Rangers can play with both and might sneak to the Conference Final at least as they "attach" to the Atlantic. In the West, give me any of the 4 teams from the Central. I like them all better then the Pacific teams. Think it's Minnesota's turn this year though.

Leafs fans actually wanted to see Habs win and what happens.... Price plays one of his worst games.

Leafs better win today! 4 chances to clinch playoffs and they've blown 2 already! 2 left, they need to win just 1. Better be going all out the next 2 nights. Ultimate all or nothing mode.

Such a stressful game though. Kessel opens up scoring for Pens, Andersen gets hurt, Crosby also scores, and Leafs got an own goal. Was looking like another bad turn of events for Leafs, but then they tied it up and won! Glad something goes right for Leafs to end an 82 game season. Been 13 years since anyone could say that.

The moment that own goal happened, that was worst feeling all season long. Horrible flashbacks of Leafs seasons past started coming back. Glad that can be brushed over now because that would be yet another haunting moment in franchise history if they lost.

NHL must be happiest of everyone. Ratings this year are gonna be huge. Habs-Rangers official, and if Leafs get at least 1pt tomorrow then it's Leafs-Sens and Caps-Bruins. As close to the best overall matchups in East you could get from ratings perspective.

Last time the Oilers had home-ice advantage in a playoff series, their opponents were the Minnesota North Stars.

Damn well on 2/8 Tampa was last in the Eastern Conference and on 4/8 they were finally eliminated so that's way better then I expected. A healthy Stamkos and Johnson(possibly?) returning with way Kucherov, Point, and Drouin played this year is scary to think of.

Lol, goes to show how bad they've been. I'm hoping we see Battle of Alberta in rd1. Final day of season, it's still possible to see Battle of Alberta, Battle of Ontario and Battle of California in rd1! What a playoffs this could be!

Don't know if it can last. 18m in cap space this offseason, but needing to sign Johnson,Palat,Drouin,Sustr. And then backup goalie and 2-3 more roster players.

Crazy to think Leafs didn't sign Stamkos, made the playoffs, iced a team with a cap hit under the cap floor, but team who signed him didn't. Sure, he barely played this year, but that's still money paid to a guy on roster.

And Tampa regretting that Boyle deal in guessing? Giving up Boyle for a 2nd, and the team you traded him to beat you out for last playoff spot. Who knows if Stamkos and Johnson might've returned in playoffs.
