I haven't been all that impressed yet (couldn't watch tonight - curling league is back!). They're still settling into the new system. I am looking forward to not having an entire month of losing in the middle of the season though. That was like clockwork with Yeo.

Stamkos getting booed in Toronto and then scoring like 30 seconds later is so funny.

He got booed in Toronto, for what, not wanting to play in Toronto?

If that's their logic they should probably be booing like 80% of the league.

He got booed cause everyone thought he was gonna go play in Toronto. He took less money to stay in Tampa over playing for the team he grew up watching. The Leafs current roster is the most appealing to a free agent than it's been in well over a decade, so people thought with Marner,Matthews,Nylander leading the way up front, that could help attract a big name like Stamkos.

Don't worry, in 2 years, same will happen to Tavares lol.

FTFY. It's disheartening to see how myopic and provincial 95% of hockey fans and media are. An alarmingly large number of people in the Vancouver area think the Canucks are going to be a decent team this year based solely on their first 5 games. Those people are grossly mistaken.

Rangers rocked the Bruins last night. What a find Brandon Pirri has been.

I thought that game was going to get put of hand at first. I'm glad I was wrong.

Re: The Official 2016-17 Regular Season Talk Thread

Ducks re-signed Lindholm. 5.25M per year for 6 years. Now we wait and see what their next move will be.

Ducks will be one of the teams that'll be interesting to watch pre-expansion draft.

The problem for them, forward wise they have Vermette,Perry,Getzlaf,Kesler,Bieksa all with NMC,meaning they're auto-protected. So that's 4F/1D already protected. Meaning they can either have 3F/2D or 3 skaters also protected.

F wise, Rakell/Silfverberg are the main notables
D wise, Lindholm,Vatanen,Fowler,Despres are the notables

I'd be surprised if Rakell/Silfverberg aren't protected, so that means they'd have to go the 3F/2D route. Fowler/Despres are likely the odd men out in this situation.

Under this scenario, they'd still have 1F spot to protect(unless they want to use it up on Cogliano or something). A JVR-Fowler type deal would work out perfectly for Ducks, especially if Leafs take on as much of JVRs 16-17 cap hit as possible. Leafs have cap room to play with this year, and badly need D. Ducks could use a top 6 forward under 30 years old. Win-Win for both teams.

Joel Eriksson Ek just scored a ridiculous goal. This draft pick appears to be a good one.

So is it pronounced Coyotees or Coyotes (like boats)?

Leafs actually didn't blow a lead!

Marner with the assist hat trick. 3 assists on the 3 Leafs goals. Bozak helping his trade value by scoring 2 goals. And Andersen can shut up those annoying media people for the time being with 29 saves and just 2 GA.

It's getting to the point where you almost can't send him back to Sweden when his 9 games are up. He needs to stay.

Nice to see them accumulating points, when I still feel like they haven't really hit their groove. Still getting outshot quite a bit, which is something I expect to change once Boudreau's system really sets in.

Dubnyk is dialed in in, which is nice to see.

I absolutely hate when decisions on young players in the NHL and MLB are based on having a damn extra year of control a few years down the line. How about you don't give terrible contracts to declining players so you have money to sign the young guy when the time comes?
