There will be interest considering his pedigree and resume in the league. But a roster swap or anything of a position player trade is unlikely to me. He'd be in CGY already, had they not been so high in the draft order, but w/ Murray on the shelf, it was a nice problem to have. But picking up Conlin(sp?) sent a tenor that Fleury is not long term, even as backup here. But DuPuis contract on exempt, and Kunitz being near term, MAF could be afforded, but that's too much to pay for a net, especially here (87,71,58 etc.). Ideally he will be moved for picks and prospects.

Re: The Official 2016-17 Regular Season Talk Thread
Not much of a surprise, especially with expansion draft in 8 months. However, market will be very small for him I'd imagine. Whoever deals for him has to be OK with leaving whatever goalie is his backup, unprotected in the draft. While many backups aren't gonna be missed awhole lot, the amount a team would give up for Fleury will be a lot to begin with, so I'm sure they won't want to lose what is likely a young goalie for nothing.
It was my understanding that the Pens will have to protect him.
Knowing the Pens have a gun to their head, I don't see them getting much for MAF. May even have to pay someone to take him off their hands.Comment

If you're a Rangers fan, well, it's tough to dominate and lose a game like that. So. Many. Chances.Al Czervik: [mocking] You demand satisfaction? Well I'll tell you what's satisfying: *cash*. I'll shoot you 18 holes for ten thousand bucks!

How will MAF's limited no-movement clause affect the expansion draft?

Biggest question is if a limited NMC is as protective of the player's roster spot as a full NMC, per draft guidelines. I'm really not sure.Last edited by 75 58 47 old school; 10-20-2016, 12:58 PM.Eh, stupid, just some English pig with no brains!!!

Re: The Official 2016-17 Regular Season Talk Thread
Teams I could see interested in Fleury:
Canes(Lack is just a backup and Wards time is coming to an end soon)
Stars(Neither of their goalies are anything special, and are both overpaid. Maybe one of those guys gets thrown in as part of the deal as salary dumps. So either Vegas takes one of them,or Pens just on the hook for 1 year of their contract)Comment

Don't know who is on Fleury's NMC, as far as his "no" list of teams. And Rutherford won't move him, if he doesn't like the deal. But I would be surprised if they swapped for a backup, since Tristian Jarrie(sp?) is the next in line to support Pens' starter, whomever it is. They are deep in net right now, and have unproven, but very talented young keepers, so it's going to be interesting to see what JR is looking for, as far as return, if he is shopping MAF.Eh, stupid, just some English pig with no brains!!!

3 straight for the Wild after dropping the opener. Still feels like they're trying to find their groove under Boudreau.

Boomer Gordon put it perfectly last night on XM.
I'm paraphrasing, but he said all the top-end talent Edmonton has drafted over the years is like pouring pure, clean water into a dirty glass.
Edmonton is a tire-fire of an organization. I would have loved to see what Nails could have done if he started his career with a well-run organization (see any franchise not named the Edmonton Oilers and Detroit Lions).Comment

Nice night of hockey ahead, Leafs-Hawks and Habs-Bruins on hockey night in Canada!
I hope the young guys are paying attention tonight, cause the Hawks are what leafs fans hope the leafs core ends up like. Matthews-Marner being our Toews-Kane. Toews taken 3rd in 06, Kane 1st in 07,both debuted in 07-08 season, Hawks turned things around in such a short time. Leafs don't expect an instant turnaround, but would be nice to follow that path. Marner 4th in 15, Matthews 1st in 16, both debut in 16-17 season.Last edited by Majingir; 10-22-2016, 11:00 AM.Comment

Following up on Majingir's post, the top headline on TSN.ca at this moment is, "Will the Leafs become the new Blackhawks?" Hey, why stop with a parade when you can plan a dynasty instead?
I like what Toronto is doing and think they have a bright future, but cool your jets, kids. I want to like this Leafs team going forward, but apparently TSN and Sportsnet intend on making that very difficult for me.Last edited by DrJones; 10-22-2016, 01:44 PM.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: The Official 2016-17 Regular Season Talk Thread
Isn't that the reason most people hate them already? Even before they started sucking 10 years ago, when they were a playoff team, SN/TSN still did nothing but talk about them. They're the Knicks of the NHL.
After the HNIC ratings tank from last year, SN especially will be hyping up Leafs 24/7. NHL as a whole needs Leafs to succeed to really increase revenue. Leafs as a playoff team brings in so much money from ticket sales and especially TV ads. NHL is the one league which actually cares about canadian TV ratings, and an NHL playoffs with the Leafs in it would draw like 4M+ viewers consistently.
Not to mention the NHL needs those media stars too. Like I mentioned a number of posts back, while NHL does have ones like Crosby,Ovechkin,Stamkos,Toews and stuff, none are in Canadian markets. Matthews,McDavid getting the hype that they do from the Canadian media will make these guys the 2 most profitable stars for the NHL. Matthews already has one of most bought jerseys in the league.Comment
