Re: NHL to Seattle!
Seattle doing nice work so far coming up with name/colours.

Firebirds like I've said would be a cool name. And fans seem to want green as primary colour, as it should be.Comment

Re: NHL to Seattle!
80s-era Sonics green/yellow/white is clearly the way to go here.
Maybe a little black trim to make the green & yellow pop, like the late 80s/early 90s North Stars.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: NHL to Seattle!
They're looking at having an AHL affiliate in Palm Springs. I have no idea how that would end up in terms of hockey interest, but must be enough if they're planning a 10,000 seat venue.
Sounds like some GMs might have been holding grudges against Vegas regarding the expansion draft. Not sure specifics, but maybe stemming from guys Vegas ended up taking from them, or the insane price charged to protect certain guys (or cost to get Vegas to take certain guys).
Seeing how the Seattle expansion is the same format, will definitely be interesting to see how teams approach it this time.Comment

Re: NHL to Seattle!
There is actually quite a large number of retired Canadians in Palm Springs over the winter. So much so that some of the bars downtown fly the Canadian flag. I bet they’ll get quite a few from that group to go to the games. I wonder where they’re going to put the arena. There are like 5 or 6 cities all connected in the valley there.
Looks like it's going to be in downtown PS and is backed by the Agua Caliente tribe, which is not a surprise at all. The G-League team (Clippers affiliate) that's in the area, which is in Ontario and named after the tribe, will move there as well.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 07-05-2019, 11:29 AM.Comment

Re: NHL to Seattle!
For sure the Seattle-Vancouver rivalry will be great. How many recent expansion teams had a rival the moment they entered the league? Ottawa maybe was the last?Comment

Re: NHL to Seattle!
Ya, I've said it before Vegas even got a team that Seattle should've been first in line. The arena was only thing holding them back. NHL needed Seattle more than QC.

Re: NHL to Seattle!
Bringing back the Houston Aeros would be interesting. IMO the NHL should have taken them too when the WHA folded. They'd have to move a team out west though, I suppose Arizona would be the obvious choice.
I'm not sold on Hartford or Cleveland.Comment

Re: NHL to Seattle!
Is there a market for hockey in KC? I still dont get how they had a nice arena built with no nba or Nhl team in the plans.
I just hope after Seattle, NHL seriously considers relocation. But I've given up hope on it happening. After hearing thoughts on what owners feel about things like the current playoff format and loser point system/shootout and all that, I've accepted NHL will always be behind for a reason, they don't listen to their fans or do things which make sense.Comment

Seattle is getting a team. Hopefully one day Florida or Carolina gets moved to QC.

If there is relocation, I think Houston is in front of Quebec. I read Al Strachan's book and he claims that the NHL did everything it could to prevent the Thrashers from moving to Winnipeg. They really don't want to place anymore teams in Canada, but since there was literally nobody else interested in buying them, the NHL and the BOG didn't have a choice.
Strachan claims that the NHL will never put a team in Quebec if they can help it.
I really hope this isn't true. I know the NHLPA wants to go to whichever market can help drive up revenue.
Maybe they can fight for it.Comment
