More trades; Hockey Al-Qaeda ships off Ondrej Kase to Boston for a 1st, Axel Andersson (2018 2nd) and David Backes (25% retained).

At first glance, this seems strange for Anaheim. Kase should be a part of the future for a rebuilding-ish team, and it seems like a light return for taking on the Backes contract. Look at Backes' deal, he's owed 4 M this year and next on a 6 M cap hit. This year, 3 M was signing bonus, so Anaheim is actually saving money for the rest of this year. Next season is 1 M in signing bonus and 3 M in salary. Buying it out only saves 1.5 M, so burying Backes is almost strictly better. It sounds like Backes hasn't been LTIR'ed yet, although that could change. If he does get LTIR'ed, then the trade looks more even.

Unlikely. His contract has a NMC, is large, has another year left on it and he's been pretty meh the past two years.

More likely Chicago moves one of Lehner/Crawford and tries to resign the other. Besides that however, I don't see many if any goalies being moved at the deadline.

Yeah I hated the effort they put in but seeing him in the post game interview I can’t help but be happy for the guy. Must be a dream come true.

Quality wise I'd sign Lundqvist over Crawford anyday actually. However 8.5 million cap hit over 6.0 is quite a bit to chew. The NMC ofcourse is something he would have to ignore, but considering how NYR is currently handling him, that could happen. But ofcourse, currently he is not worth 8.5, question is what he would do on a better team. I have a hard time seeing him worth 8.5 anywhere though...

More likely he'll get moved in the offseason if he's interested in ring hunting. More likely, he plays a part of the Rangers trying to pull out of the rebuild.

I wonder if Yzerman will move Robby Fabbri a la Cory Conacher. Athanasiou could get moved as well, perhaps for another young distressed asset like Puljujarvi or one of Buffalo's young defensemen. Not expecting much tomorrow however.

As a Leaf fan I've gotten use to watching other teams in the playoffs, but I'm really looking forward to a Caps-Pens 2nd round matchup, hopefully winner plays Tampa.
