Vegas will be one of the hub cities.

The other still isn't known, but sounds like they're still hoping for it to be in Canada, probably Toronto (for the eastern conference games).

As if things couldn't get worse, Matthews tested positive for the virus.

Just cancel everything at this point.

At the same time, the reason that his name has now gotten out there as someone who tested positive is a joke. The person who "leaked" that news is the same Toronto sports "writer" who has had numerous issues with players in the past, most notable for making up that story about Kessel and a hot dog stand.

NHL says 11 players have tested positive for COVID-19 since June 8.

Tampa Bay has also temporarily shut down its training facilities.

League is down to 6 hub city choices.

Vegas I believe is still one of the faves. Vancouver seemed to be another one.

Toronto is still in the running. The city just moved into Stage 2 of reopening which means many more things are opening up now.

A new proposal will have players basically living on the CNE grounds (for those unfamiliar with Toronto, the grounds are where they have MLS/CFL games as well as AHL games, its also where the Raptors parade started, and the grounds are where they also have an annual summer fair).

Players would be staying at Hotel X(a 4 star hotel). They dont mean an undisclosed hotel location, the actual hotel name is Hotel X. Not sure if publishing the hotel where guys could stay at is a smart idea though....

Feels almost like an Olympic Village format to it.

Looks like Edmonton and Toronto are gonna be the 2 hub cities.

Theres recently been a law around Ontario (moreso in the gta) about everyone needing to wear a mask in public indoor places. I'd guess this won't impact games, unless they make non players/refs wear masks.

                  We have a schedule!

Too bad we don't have crowds. An Oilers vs Hawks and Flames vs Jets series would've been so much fun with crowds.

                    I have questions.

How many rinks are going to be used for games inside each bubble? Two? Three? What happens if there's a mammoth OT game with another one scheduled inside the same arena that day?

I assume the round-robin seeding games are using regular season rules (5 min of 3-on-3 OT followed by a shootout), but I haven't found that in writing anywhere. Do players' point totals in those games count as official postseason scoring?

There's 3 games each day in the same venue. They left a 30 min window where games could be shifted even further.

Games will be at 12,4 and 8pm.

Hockey games usually take 2.5 hours. Let's say the 12pm game goes to double OT, that might be a 3.5 hour game. So it would be done at 3:30, meaning 4pm game is pushed to 4:30.

Don't expect many marathon games, so if games take 2.5-3 hours on average, there's still time to get other games in.

What I'm wondering is where teams will dress. Home and away locker rooms will be occupied by the teams on the ice, so does the next team have a lockerroom setup somewhere else in the arena?

All arenas have more than 2 locker rooms. That won't be an issue.

I don't get why the visual of fans being there is as important. Lights are typically dimmed anyways (and I'd prefer actually having even dimmer lights in some cases even when people are there).

It's the actual noise itself which is what people will notice.

Different players probably react differently. Some play to the crowd and get the rush/push from the reactions.

Overall, it's a surreal state of just this one system in the overall surreal state of these times. We designed sporting events to include live crowds for a reason ..... not to have some dystopian type event/presentation.

Admittedly, I'm no expert on the ice-making and maintenance process, but if it's 35C and humid in Toronto, I probably wouldn't want to play in the 3rd game of the day.
