You can't keep saying "the other team had a vezina goalie" and stuff like that. Something needs to happen. Do I think the Leafs can run it back and win 50 games again next year? Yes. Does that mean anything in the playoffs? No.

So what do you even do?

Roster wise, Campbell is the main guy needing to be signed, but Mrazek should hopefully be not too hard to dump, and use that money on Campbell. And also get a solid backup for him.

D wise, I'm fine with Rielly,Muzzin,Brodie,Lyubushkin,Liljegren,Sandin as their core.

Offensively all I think they'd even need is a Marchand or Tom Wilson like guy in their top 6.
Marchand has averaged 90 pts per season since 2017 while making a million less than Nylander. Pretty sure everyone could use a guy like that in their top 6.

Seriously, though, Toronto needs to use their biggest asset: money. Hire Trotz.

Every game 7 went to OT AND the home team won.

                    Every one....except one. Of course.

Oettinger was outstanding. Dude almost stole the series.

Got to believe facing Mike Smith will be a lot easier for the Flames.

I wonder what the Leafs plans could be for their coaching position. Do you really want this core to go through their 3rd coach? But can you also keep everything together again? Might be a Dwane Casey situation where you just have to get rid of him simply because you need that change, even if you've just had your best season.

Although, Trotz did coach the Caps who you could argue is the closest comparable to the Leafs in the sense that they had dominant regular seasons and fell apart in the playoffs. And Trotz after a few years did help the Caps win the cup. And of course back to back conference finals with the Islanders, so perhaps he could help get them over the hump, having been part of that turnaround in Washington that finally got them a cup.

No-brainer IMO. Keefe should've been shown the door after the Montreal series. Not that he's a bad coach, but the Leafs need a great one to get beyond this.

I dont think the Habs one would've been fair as he never had a proper season up to then to really do anything. They did get rid of some of his assistants, like special teams guys (PP/PK failed big time to end the season and carried into the playoffs).

But this year, no excuses. Trotz would be a great choice. I think they apparently had interest in Boudreau, but that was as an assistant, and he obviously took a better job than that.

But Trotz taking a head coaching job if the Leafs paid him enough, and probably bringing in his own guys or just other people for other stuff, that could be a good option.

They definitely could use a coach who has been there, done that. Especially someone who has learned from many first round exits himself early on in his career.

The strange thing with Trotz is he never won anything in the playoffs with Nashville. So he wasn't some champion before he went to Washington. If Toronto is going to fire Keefe, Trotz has to be the guy.

Also, boo no WC upsets in the first round.
