Shane Wright will play for team Canada at the world juniors.

Not like anyone stands out so far, but the 2022 draft class early on definitely feels weird. The consensus #1 falls to 4, the guy taken #1 hasn't exactly lit it up.

Before joining the Leafs, Timmins got 7 assists in 41 games.

Since joining the Leafs, he has 4 assists in 4 games.

Of course it would be on a hat trick

I hope he doesn't break Howes record within his next 2 games.

The game after that though would be against the Red Wings. You can't script this, he could tie or break Howes record in that one.

I have to ask hockey historians, was the WHA legit? Just thinking because Gordie had 174 WHA goals in his late 40s, which is ridiculous even against standard competition, but were there other top tier players or was it just old man Gordie schooling younger guys

From what I've read (even I'm not old enough to remember the WHA), semi-legit, semi-joke. Better than the AHL, not as good as, say, the KHL. The style of play was more akin to the NHL of the 80s than the 70s, so in that sense, it was a boon to hockey, a safe haven for skilled shrimps and Euros during the NHL's meathead era. 36-year-old Bobby Hull scored 77 goals one season.

Probably the best thing about the WHA is that the competition had a significant impact on raising NHL players salaries. 67 players jumped from the NHL to the WHL in the first year which is a huge number considering how few teams the NHL had at that point.

And like DrJones mentioned the league signed a few European players who had been pretty much ignored by the NHL and US college players found jobs in the WHL. Nobody had really paid much attention to them.

Financially, yeah it was a joke and that affected the quality. Teams jumped from city to city more than a criminal evading the police.

The NHL is discussing an 84 game season, because 82 isn't enough..

92/93 and 93/94 are the only seasons to ever have more than 82 games.

The reason is for more balanced schedules.

You'd play the other conference 2 games each (32 games)

Teams in your division 4 times each (28 games)

Teams in the other division 3 times (24 games)

I feel like they'd be able to have more balanced schedules/intense rivalries if they simply divided up the divisions with 8 divisions of 4.

You play all 7 other divisions 2 games each (56 games) and then the 3 teams in your division 8 times each. That's 78 games.

Or 6 vs your own division, but then 1 division you play 4 times each, so it alternates every year, and that gives you 82 games.

And with divisions of 4s, we could see 4 game roadtrips where you're just facing an entire division during the roadtrip, which would also help travel.

I always viewed the WHA in a similar way as the ABA.

Do we consider Dr.J a 4 time MVP and top 10 scorer of all time, on the same level as a LeBron,Wilt?

Are the Pacers 3 ABA titles on par with an NBA title (which they haven't won)?
