Just a horrible game by the Leafs. It will be interesting to see if the two Lightning defensemen are too injured to play on Thursday. Hedman would be a giant loss.
Yeah, I'm looking for silver linings.Comment

Even with Ottawa picking up 25% of the salary, that Murray deal strikes me as insane.
Of all goalies with 50+ appearances over the last 3 seasons, Murray is 57th (out of 64) in save percentage and 53rd in GAA. That's the best the Leafs could do with 4.7M of cap space??? This is the player that Dubas is staking his career on? Dear God.
BTW, Murray is now 61st (out of 72) and 58th in SV%/GAA of goalies with 50+ appearances in the last 4 seasons. If the Leafs can't come back and win the series, this is Dubas's Waterloo.Last edited by DrJones; 04-19-2023, 01:21 AM.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Seems relevant, now that Leafs are entertaining the possibility of Joseph Woll, Game 2 starter.

700k next year and 2m the year after is his cap hit if bought out. So if Leafs can't dump him entirely with a 3rd and 7th attached, and no team wants him for nothing if the Leafs retain 1m a year, just buy him out.
The thing about the Leafs (and Canadian teams in general), you don't need playoff success to draw fans or make money. Most times you don't need regular season success either, although that helps.
Leafs could easily run it back next year and finish top 3 again, lose again, and still come out dominating the league in revenue.Comment

Chris Kreider became the NY Rangers all-time playoff goal scorer with his 35th career playoff goal.
Hard to believe 35 is the record for an Original Six team. Just tells you how many terrible years the Rangers have had.Comment

That, but also the fact that playoffs weren't 4 rounds of up to 7 games.Comment

For comparison sake, I looked up the Leafs all-time playoff goal scorer. Turns out the record is also 34 (Wendel Clark). Even with shorter rounds during the glory years of the 1940s and 1960s and the decades of playoff woes I would have thought someone would have scored more.Comment

The Original 6 were more like the Original 3 - Boston, Chicago, and the Rangers were pretty much fodder for the Habs, Leafs, and Wings. During the entire 25 year stretch that comprised the O6 Era (42/43 through 66/67), the Rags won 1 playoff series and missed the postseason altogether 18 times. No mean feat!Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
