Perry put out a statement apologizing and said it didn't involve any teammate or their family (though didn't say it didn't any other staff members part of the organization....), and mentioned he'll seek help for mental health and substance abuse (seems to be alcohol related).

That all seems to line up with the latest rumor about it possibly involving a staff member with the Hawks and alcohol being involved. Though it could be anything at this point.


The internet obviously is a bad place at times, and this makes me wonder how this whole thing would've played out if that rumor didn't exist and Perry just flat out released the statement. Hawks suspend or waive him, he puts out this statement mentioning alcohol and its a whole diff tone than what it is right now.

The internet is a bad place pretty much all the time IMO, but salacious rumours were around before then, they just didn't penetrate the public consciousness as much. Typically of the "so and so is gay", "so and so slept with a teammate's wife", etc. variety. Pavel Bure rumours (Coke orgies! The Russian mob! Hit on by Messier!) were a thriving industry here in the 90s, LOL.

Makes you wonder what percentage of NHLers would be considered alcoholics. There have been quite a few instances coming to light just in the past few months.

A pretty large percentage are functional alcoholics, I imagine. Coke is still surprisingly popular among players as well.

This Wings/Sharks game is crazy, halfway through the 2nd it was 0-0, in the blink of an eye Detroit scores 4 goals. After a second blink, SJ scores 4 goals.

I'm enjoying the Edmonton Oilers downward spiral more than I should be enjoying another Canadian team suffering.

This did not age well. Don't think they've lost since I posted this.

I don't know who hates the Leafs more right now, the Islanders fans or that anthem singer. That was brutal.

Singing the anthem at 2x the speed while also changing the tone and then missing a whole section of the anthem....

This did not age well. Don't think they've lost since I posted this.

In retrospect, seems pretty clear the early season disaster was largely that new "defensive scheme" and McDavid being less than 100%.

Oilers had bad shooting luck to begin the year, and were always gonna regress to the mean as the season went on.

Rantanen going after a teammate's dad in a postgame interview was not on my bingo card this year.

The scheduling can get odd at times.

Ottawa has played only 23 games while four teams have already played 30. Of their first 23 games, Ottawa has only played six road games. Seems really bizarre. Not sure if it's simply a quirk in the schedule or if there's a reason.

DJ Smith gone as Sens coach

Jacques Martin who hasn't been a head coach in over a decade and is now in his 70s takes over. This will be his 5th different decade coaching.

Alfredsson is now an assistant coach.

In other news, Fleury was supposed to start tonight vs the Pens in what was likely his last game in Pittsburgh....but the Wild are sitting him.

It's night 1 of a back to back, so he's playing today or tomorrow regardless, they just decided to hold him out until Boston (despite Nedeljkovic being much better vs Boston than Pittsburgh in his career too).

How often does that happen? I honestly had to google "michigan goal", which is weird since I actually remember that old highlight (and it was awesome)



can't imagine complaints though, that has to be a pretty infrequent occurrence
