Re: The Official 2024-25 Season Talk Thread
The best thing I can say about the Toronto Maple Leafs season is that the other Atlantic division teams seem to be really struggling and because of that -- more than anything else -- they could win the division. Otherwise they look like a house of cards, the Minnesota Vikings of the NHL, ready to fall in the playoffs again at the first opportunity.
I also see Montreal rallying to get into a wildcard spot and a possible first round opponent. Yeah, I don't want that. Still stung from that playoff collapse during the COVID season.Comment

Pens with Jarry on waivers.
Obviously the Murray/Jarry tandem didn't pay off more than keeping Fleury would have.
To be fair, we thought the same in 2021 with the Canadian division and clearly that failed too.Last edited by Majingir; 01-15-2025, 02:31 PM.Comment

That brings up an interesting question. Are there any potential playoff matchups that Leafs fans *would* feel good (or at least neutral) about? Ottawa?Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: The Official 2024-25 Season Talk Thread
Tempted to say Columbus but I recall that five-game playoff loss in 2020 where the Leafs were a complete no show in the deciding game at home. So that's a No.
I look at Boston's minus 22 goal difference (only Pittsburgh is worst in the East) and it's a still a big NO. LOL.Comment

Yep, Ottawa.

Leafs can beat anyone and lose to anyone. IMO most of their losses was more about the Leafs choking than it was about then other team playing better than they had all season.
You'd rather face the Sens than Panthers, but would rather lose to the Panthers than the Sens.Comment

Real answer...no.

Senators x4
Islanders x1
Lightning x1
Playoff games in Ottawa would be 75% Leafs fans. Plus Sens fans would be at least as fearful of a(nother) traumatic defeat as Toronto fans. They're the only possible opponent that the Leafs would have a psychological advantage against.
(Plus Ottawa isn't that good.)Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Get blown out by the worst team and then blow out the defending champs. Just another week in the NHL.Comment
