I always liked 04 better than 05.IMO 2006 beats them both hands down.The courses look alive this year.Also I don't know if it's me but the trueswing on expert seems alot harder which is fine with me

I posted this in the console impressions thread in response to an indirect questions about the PC version. I think it's a better fit here, so I'll just snip what I posted there and paste it here.

Tiger Woods 06 (PC) is easily the best of the series, in most respects. The grass textures on most courses are a vast improvement of years past. Most of the trees and shrubs are just as ugly as ever though. The XBox version trees are far more varied and attractive than what's in the PC version.

What I most like about this year's version is the fact that "Ready Play" has been reintroduced to the game. It was in PGA 2000 and Tiger Woods 2002, but missed the cut in 03-05. It makes online multiplayer play so much faster and enjoyable for me.

When you tee off with Ready play, the other golfer(s) in your group are also teeing off, although you don't see them live. Once you've hit your shot, you'll then see what amounts to a "virtual tape replay" of their shot, while they're watching yours. It saves you from having to sit there and wait while each other sets up a shot. You can still send chat text messages. I do it while I'm watching the replay. You can also fast forward through the replay by hitting the appropriate button. It's cut 30-40% of the time required to play a match, which is great news to me.

The game is more difficult this year. I hadn't played TW 2005 with TrueSwing in a while and I've lost my touch with it. I'm all over the place now trying to control the ball in my normal ability level (Advanced). For some reason, the golfer animation seems to move faster this year, and I'm having a hard time regulating speed. If your tempo isn't right, you will be more severaly punished. I haven't found the happy medium just yet with this, and it's currently put a damper on my enjoyment of the game. I'll be able to find some mouse sensitivity setting, or another device alternative that should work better for me.

I tried the gamepad controls, which are new this year, and I didn't like it. The sensitivity is off the chart with my Logitech Dual Analog controller and I can't putt with any feel at all. Putting is a lot more difficult with TrueSwing this year. It punishes you more for tracking errors with the mouse. I think it's a step up, but until I can figure out how to tune my mouse (Logitech MX-510), it's more than I can handle.

I haven't played a TW game in a few years - '03 on XBOX. Can you explain TrueSwing with a mouse? How does it work?

Wow... this is a haard game. Trueswing with a mouse is basically pulling down for the backswing and forward to put it through the ball.

Even on Novice, this game is HAAARd!

If you have 2004 version for the PC, is the upgrade worth the $39.99 price tag? I'm reading some things saying that it's not that much better, basically 2004 ver 1.5.

TrueSwing uses the vertical or horizontal movement of the mouse to move the clubhead through the swing. It allows for more variables to be modeled: speed, swing path, and ball striking accuracy. It's possible to hit a push hook, or a pull slice because of the swing path and the position on the clubhead which strikes the ball. I think just about any gamer of any skill can find a setting that makes the game challenging using it. It can be a little finicky to set up and tune to your mouse and hardware though.

I'm not sure that this year's version is worth $39.95. If I could find it for $29.95, I'd say go for it. This series hasn't progressed to the level I thought it would be at by now. It still looks like a 2002/2003 game. They've improved the grass textures significantly, but the trees still leave a lot to be desired. I still think 2004 plays a very decent game, and I like the TrueSwing of that version the best, in terms of feel. It's difficulty might not be stiff enough for some though.

I just picked this up for PC the other day and it's a great game graphics and all. i play with an analog pad and i suck bad. don't know how some of you could say it's easy but for me it's very difficult. i can't hit a straight shot more than 2 every ten swings. are you guys playing it with a gamepad?

it makes it very difficult at least for me. i must be the worst TW Golfer around if you guys do play with a game pad and still find it easy. i play on intermadiate and i always slice or pull the ball. any tips? i use a custom player i made so my stats are very low now.
