I hate to say it but if you did not buy the extended warranty after seeing the hundreds of thousands of users whose 360's were failing, I don't know what to tell you. I never purchase any piece of complex electronics hardware without an extended warranty these days....good luck getting back in the game.

My dumb luck finally pays dividends... as it turns out, Microsoft is now replacing XBox 360s, manufactured prior to 1/06/06, free of charge! Why am I lucky since I paid my $139.95 last week for mine to be replaced? Microsoft is refunding those who have paid the $139.95 a refund check! This has been confirmed to be true by dozens of customers now.

I just had my second 360 die last night. Took it into CompUSA for an exchange and 30 minutes later I was back in business. However, it cost me another $44.95 for a new TAP replacement warranty and while I can afford to do this, I damn sure don't like it as it is an expensive option that I should not be having to pay.

Glad to hear MS is stepping up to the plate here for everyone who purchased a 360 because there are SERIOUS issues with build quality of these machines....

Are you serious? You've had two fail on you!? What was the build date on the second one you had? I'm trying to figure out where Microsoft *may* have turned the corner on build quality.

No, you shouldn't be having to replace it this quickly. The look and feel of the XBox 360 speaks of quality, but there's clearly something seriously wrong here.

As much as I like the technology of the XBox 360, I have never felt more uneasy with any other console I've owned than it. I'm going to slap a Nyko Intercooler on my replacement. I don't have scientific data to support that it helps with reliability, but I've only read one report from an XBox 360 owner who used one and had a failure.

Some have said that Microsoft Tech Support told them that the Intercooler voids the warranty. I can see where Microsoft could take a policy of non-endorsement of the Intercooler because if they did, it would be a tacit admission that the 360 had inadequate cooling by its own design.... that would be economic suicide to admit it, although having to offer free replacements for pre 1/06/06 360s could be seen as an admission of something drastically wrong!

No idea what the build date was. Could not wait to get rid of it and get the new one....
