    Links 2004..too easy?

I just picked Links 2004 to play on the 360. I never played it before..but TW 06 was getting boring.

Anyway..I just started my career...intermediate level....and I have not missed one fairway on the Amauteur level. I know its early, but does the game get harder?

My biggest problem with golf games is that hittng the fairway off the tee is too easy. Do I have to start all over again just to become an advance player?

I still have probs with the puts (can't judge power)...its just the tee and fairway shots that seem easy. Maybe it gets harder on the other tours..Pro, etc?

Just wondering...can't wait for TW 07

IMO Links 2004 was and still is the most accurate golf simulation. Playing on the higher difficulty levels does in fact make the game harder. Put some wind in the game and turn off the CPU assists (forgot if these are in Links) and the difficulty level goes through the roof. Also pin placement will make putting an adventure. I forget which course it is, but one of the three downloadable courses will challenge the best of the best. Narrow fairways, lots of traps, etc.......I believe it's the course called Director's Cut. I'm pretty sure it's the free download and it's an existing course that got a major facelift.

Oh yeah, good luck trying to sink long putts, chip shots and short range fairway shots with alarming frequency like in TW !!!

I always thought it was too easy but far more realistic than TW.

That course is nuts. With the highest wind and farthest back tees, I challenge anyone to shoot under par consistently.

            thanks for the responses.

Main question: before I go any farther..I won both Amauter tourneys (Links and something else)...should I start over with an advanced player? My player is intermediate now.

            just wondering...

              Re: Links 2004..too easy?

Advanced is the way to go with Links 2004. I started a new career in advanced and I'm finding the challenge to be there. The trick in this game is to know when to cap off your skill points. I capped mine at 25 previously. What's odd is that when you start applying "control" points to your skills, your ability to unwittingly hit a hook or a slice increases.

The control skill allows you to put spin on the ball when you need it, but it's a double-edged sword... it also give you the ability to screw up more when you don't track the swingpath properly with the thumbstick.

Oh, here's a trick to help you build your player's skill points up quickly. I don't feel like it's a cheat because I already had a 25 skill point player (could have maxed him out with all the money I had, but held off for challenge reasons) in the XBox version.

To build your player quickly do the following: Create your character, play the tutorial, keep the $40K along with the $30K you start with, play the 9 hole Links 2004 Open under the career option in Amateur, finish in the top 5 and when you get to the screen where it says you have been given a skill point upgrade across the board (it's 1 point per attribute). Press the "Y" button to return to the 360 dash and do so without saving. Repeat do NOT save. When you get to the dash, start the game and play the Links 2004 Open again. Finish in the top 5 rinse and repeat. Do it 20 times and you have 80 skill points.

I did it enough times to get me to 16, where I'm at right now. I took the $70K I started with, plus the additional winnings I had from the 9 hole tournaments to get up to 16. I still had trouble beating the amateur I had to beat in a nine hole match to get my Pro card, even at that.

i was in a "0 points" tour for Links, and if you're playing with the default player, tough wind and pin position, Links plays a damn hard game...if you can shoot 10 under par at St. Andrews with 30 mph wind gusts and a 0 point player, then any golf game will be too easy for you lol

Yes. Sh*tcan the intermediate player now. With an advanced player, you receive no power and accuracy meters for any woods, irons or wedges, and your putting line is much shorter than amateur or intermediate.

Make sure you're using professional tee distances, no mulligans, hard pin placements and at least breezy conditions. Then you'll see the difficulty stiffen.

And if you want a real challenge, use the above parameters with a player who only has the attributes gained from passing the first tutorial. That's only seven skill points. Now, go to Ocean Mill Director's Cut and break 80 -- I dare you!

                  Take care,

                    This game sounds fun.

I'm gonna go bargain hunting for some BC 360 games and hopefully I can pick this up.

I am new to the game and love it so far. I am playing with a 7 point player, meaning I have the 4 on power and 1 for each of the other 3 attributes. Are you saying that for an even harder experience to put more attributes on control?

What exactly is the most challenging attribute set to have? Should I go more on power? I have some drives on some courses that are over 300 yds but for the most part I probably average about 285 yds. I feel like this is fine but then there are some holes where I barely muster 260 yds.

What is everyone's (veterans of the game) consensus?

                      Thanks in advance.

Keep your skill points at 7 -- no higher. Those are the basic skill points you get for finishing the tutorial. You always can create another player to use for the Career mode, where skill points are added automatically to your golfer once you complete challenges or win tournaments.

How you distribute those 7 skill points is up to you. I'd rather have a better short game and putter than driving distance, but that's me.

Glad you're digging the game. Good luck!
