I'm glad to see so many people discovering links for the first time. Best damn console golf experience to be had.

      Re: Links 2004..too easy?

Well...I guess I have to change the name of my original post.

I started over with an advanced player...only played the 1st 2 rookie Tourneys.

Still hit the fairway pretty consistently..but did hit the rought a few times.

Putting is really hard without all the cpu help....but its fun.

I actually came back from 3 shots down to force a tie break with 2 other players...and the damn game froze. I have to remember to save more often...can't really tell how these old games will fare on the 360.

Anyway...I can't wait to keep playing...gonna keep the attributes low and practice!

      thanks

        Re: Links 2004..too easy?

Downloaded the Tiger 06 demo for the 360 and put it head to head with four holes from Links.

Graphically Tiger 06 is better looking but not by as large a margin as you would expect. Tiger last-gen to next-gen looks like a huge leap but put Tiger next-gen up against Links 2004 and it looks like a move up to Xbox 1.5. Even character models and the crowd are only marginally better in Tiger 06. Links does manage to have a better frame rate too.

The rest is not even close from here on out though because Links has Tiger's number in almost every other catagory. Links has better ball control, better ball physics, better putting game, better chipping game, better long ball game. Links also has a more attractive and far less cumbersom interface.

Online and career modes I can't compared based on the demo. I would assume based on reviews and past experiance with EA's online game that Tiger 06 is just as misserable...not to mention Links' trump card - fastplay. Tiger probably has a deeper carreer mode and more licensed players but if you are going to be hitting -10 and -12 every round who wants to play a long extensive career?

Oh, and lest we not forget Links has more courses than Tiger 06. Yeah, Links, the game that was lambasted by reviewers during its debut for lack of courses and it still manages to double that of Tiger 06, which was given a bit of reprieve in most reviews since it was a new engine.

My advice to any 360 owning golf fan - get a copy of Links 2004 for $6 and pass on Tiger until EA decides to spend some of the dev budget on mo capturing ball physics instead of Tiger's smile.

Totally agree! Now that Links is BC I won't be looking at TW on the 360.
I bought TW last year for the 360 and returned it a week later. The game felt too scripted. I was chipping in shots from 100 yards out.
It just feels like I'm in total control when I play Links. When I don't make a shot, I know it's my fault, and not what the CPU decided where the ball was going to go.

I grabbed my copy again the other day and love the game all over again.

I just have try to match my Par 4, Hole-in-one now

[QUOTE=OnlookerDelay;2604645]The problem you're going to run into online though is you'll see a lot of guys with maxed out skill levels. They birdie just about every hole and eagle at least two of the pars. QUOTE]

I would be interested playing against other players online with the same skill level. My player is at 7 like Phantom and PK500 talked about. Maybe we can get a tourney going? I think this is the realistic way to play. I'm having a blast with this game.

Count me in as well. I absolutely love my Madden Superstar Quarterback but can't put Links down long enough to play a game. This game rocks my socks off and I cannot even believe I didn't get this when it first came out. I must have read IGN's ridiculous review or something cuz this game is SOOOO much better than I ever thought it would be. And to read the things that Daryl Welsh mentions over on the xbox.com forums that they were doing/going to do for Links 2005...man it would have been any golf sim players dream game. They were so very close with this game. They needed more variety in lies, better commentary and better camera angles and maybe a more in depth career mode and I can't imagine any game being better than this would have been. And from his comments it appears that was almost exactly what they were going to do.

On a side note, I hit two shots on a par 3 (different rounds) that had one stop on the lip (almost a hole-in-one) and then another one that was going in but I put back spin and right at the lip it started backwards. THEN, I did it. I hit a hole-in-one and it was the most satisfying HIO I have ever had in a video golf game (since I could never be that lucky in real life). I have put probably about 20 hours worth of time into this game and I had not even come close until these 3 shots.

I rented TW 360 a month ago and no lie, my very first par 3 was a hole in one.

So if someone wants to setup a tourney for a 7 skills player, I am in. I am not great though as my best round was a 64, but usually around par +/- 2.

Also I have been playing with a "spin" ball and while that adds control (2 bars I think) to my player, it seems I have more chance for error when hitting the ball. As a matter of fact, I am not even sure how it is helping me as I am mis-hitting my fair share now. Any thoughts on this?

I would love to be in too...but I am finding advanced pretty challenging. I lost by 2 holes to the amateur in the Am championship....very fun though.

I have probs with chipping and judging putting speed. I usually leave them short.

But I would love to play in some alt shot/four ball games!

Now I have to pull out this game again. Count me in too; however, I am not too good but I have fun playing the game.

I am definitely in. I haven't developed my player beyond the default 3 points you get at the start, but I'm okay with that.

Just picked this game up yesterday...Awesome gameplay.

One question though...About keeping your player at 7 skill points. Does that mean you just play courses on your own? I guess you can still play in tourneys but just not in career mode...Is that correct?

Is it still worth doing the career mode?

I am playing career mode now with a 7 point player. I am on the second to highest tour (not too sure the name) but they have not added any other points to my player. Of course I have a TON of cash if I wanted to buy more points I could but I am not. The game is very challenging at times with a 7 point player and the higher tours.
