Scripted shots
I rented the game and I must say that it seems a bit harder then last years game. I am playing on tour mode. Something that really bothered me last year seems a little better not much. You hit the ball and the announcer tell you where your ball is gona land, even if it looks to be headed someplace else. Like some physic. Example the first par 3 on the back nine at Pebble Beach. I hit a 2 iron the guy says this looks awfully good it's gonna be close. What happens is the ball hits in front of the bunker bounces over the bunker rolls onto the green and into the cup. A hole in one. The AI golfers are the worst I have ever seen in a golf game. I am somewhat surprised by the high reviews this game is getting. I don't find anything in the game to be "next gen" This game like all EA sports games for the 360 I find myself trying to talk myself into thinking they are better then they really are. Yes this game is better then last years but that into itself doesn't make it "next gen". I would rate this effort a 7 last years game a 5.Tags: None -
Re: Scripted shots
I 100000% agree with your post. While I do really like this game and I am having fun, it sure looks like the least amount of time and effort possible was put into this sucker. I mean, unlike other sports game that have a defense and complicated AI systems to work out, all that has to be done here is a physics sym and thats it.
I do agree that it pisses me off when the tee shot it struck and it is heading straight for the bunker but the commentators already said what a great shot it was and low and behold, it bounces off the side hill in the bunker and onto the green about 3 feet from the pin.... I have turned the announcer volume way down which is a shame because I like the tid-bits on the holes themselves. After that, I wish I could turn the actual commentating off. Its as boring as listening to the CPU golfer say the same things over and over and over and over.
Until other companies come out and really compete against EA, I think this is all we are going to get for consule games. -
Re: Scripted shots
I concur. I've only once heard the announcer say it was heading for the rough and it ended up in the fairway. The color guy said "I'll take over from here" which was neat, but I don't like then knowing where my ball is headed before it even touches the ground.
As for the EA created golfers, they annoy me to no end. They are snide characters thrown out there to try and get you off your game. I don't see how Danny Wheeler could possibly be better then Ian Poulter? Why not make the fake EA chumps the first characters to beat, then have all real golfers remaining? Either that or just create enough golfers so we don't have to deal with the "Pops Mastersons" in this game. Some may like it but I think it's dumb.
And why the hell is Mike Weir quite possibly the worst golfer in this game?Comment

Re: Scripted shots
I also hate the scripted nature of some of the Skill Challenges. The character will hit the 90 foot putt within 2 feet of the cup and then miss the 2 foot putt way short. If you are going to script a 3-putt, at least make it more believable. Some of the challenges definitely feel scripted.Comment

The fact that there is a "luck" attribute should tell you something about how the gameplay is coded.Comment

Re: Scripted shots
I usually get TW every year mostly for the PC. I'm getting burned out on EA half balked games so I passed on TW07 which is a first for me. IMO I find TW2003 the most fun of them all and it's still in my PC collection.
When EA introduced create a player in TW04 ala Outlaw Golf I had a bad feeling about the series. At least TW2003 (PC) focused on trying to be a serious golf game.
I wished MS would bring back Links for the PC or 360.Comment

Re: Scripted shots
Agreed, but I find it interesting that "luck" does not seem to be an attribute when playing in TOUR Pro difficulty. I believe "luck" is more for the "Balanced" and Easy difficulty levels for the casual user.PC / Xbox One X

Re: Scripted shots
I'm surprised EA missed the boat on creating a "Breakdance Generator" feature. After shoving a particularly lucky shot down an opponent's throat you could use the right stick to throw a few flares and an elbow freeze onto the green. And then for the more advanced gamers you could do a quarter turn spin on the right stick for a windmill complete with a shotgun sound and a flash of lightning. That would be sweet! Hey, what sport were we playing again?Comment

Re: Scripted shots
Lets give the sarcasm a break and recognize that many of the arcade-like BS features found in previous TW games are NOT in the 360 version. The Executive Producer who thought those features were necessary has left the TW Production Team and it shows with the last 2 360 versions. Now they need to rip that non-golf-like arcade garbage out of the PC and previous-gen versions and get back to PGA TOUR Golf, not Tiger Woods "BIG".....PC / Xbox One X

Both. Might not have made it to the PC version til 2004, but trust me when I say it was roundly and loudly criticized during beta testing in any version that it showed up in....PC / Xbox One X
