    enhancing links 2003

I was a huge fan of links 99 and played it all through college, but then I switched to TW for a few years...now I am back to links after missing the physics and realism that I felt I got from that series (TW is still a solid game, but I digress).
that being said, I saw the $7 dl for links 2003 so I wanted to jump back in. being a fan of next-gen customization, does anyone know how (or where to direct me) to get started on tweaking my players looks? new pic for score overlay, new attire, stuff like that. I know it is minor when there is such a plethora of golf to be played on a ton of fantastic courses, but it would be nice for "video me" to look more like me.

and yes I understand it is nuts to just be getting into a game that is 6 years old, but if you haven't played it...it is totally worth the measley $7 dl...the demo does not do the game justice (powerstroke all the way!)

I am up to the 1.07 update, have about 20 of the corner's top rated courses (I didn't go for any of the pay ones...yet!), but the animation tweaks are what I am interested in. the corner is blocked here at work (but OS isn't, go figure), so I can't search there yet.
is there an "easy" way to edit clothes and stuff? or are you basically stuck with the anis that other people have already made? also the previews seemed to be dead for the golfers. the links to the ani downloads are active, but it doesn't seem like you can check it out before the dl and install process.
and is there a way to add, say my own headshot pic, to replace the stock one? or are they tied to the actual golfer animation in such a way?

just found a link to the golfer utility...seems like a good place to start. I can't actually follow the link at the moment, but it is nice to know it is there

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. I was really jazzed about Tiger Woods 10 for the Wii, but because the CPU tournament scoring AI is so bogus, it pretty much ruins the game for me in terms of long-term play value. On top of that, the last few rounds I've played the more subtle annoyances related to physics are rearing their ugly head. I'm still going to keep TW around to play a round or two here or there (and disc golf is so fun it's probably worth the price of the game by itself), but I've plunged deep into Links since re-discovering it last week.

I stick with the real-time swing, if for no other reason than I'm comfortable with it from my days playing PGA Championship Golf 2000 and the PC versions of Tiger Woods from 2002-2006. I tried messing with Powerstroke and for some reason I'm literally worse at real golf than using that mechanic. I can't explain why, but at least it will provide a challenge down the road if I ever feel the game is getting too easy again.

I'll tell you, there's something magical about playing a realistic Augusta National on my HDTV. To say nothing of the incredible Bethpage Black rendition that was just released this month. I'm amazed that people are still making stuff for this 7-year-old game, but that's only a testament to how well it's held up over time, what with the mods people have made.

You should also download the 2009 season files from linkscorner. Someone took great pains to replicate the roster and generate realistic performance data and even likely conditions based on time of year/location, etc. It's amazing how many of the events have top-notch real-life courses available for them, and the guy who did this did a great job substituting appropriate courses for events where one doesn't exist. Of course, you can always change the course for any given event, even down to playing the Masters at Devil's Island if you want (not that any sane person would.)

                Re: enhancing links 2003

I noticed several of the HD courses AFTER I had dl'd the ones from a couple years ago (which are still quite good btw), so my question to you would be: are the HD ones just as playable as the regular ones but with updated course graphics? I saw some of the re-works getting a lesser rating than the originals, so I would love to hear your opinion/suggestions for the HD courses.

I was checking out the season mode thing, and is it as difficult to implement and play as my first glance makes it out to be? it seems like it is rather involved to get it all into the game (but maybe I missed something?)

and RTS vs. PS definitely is a personal preference thing. I played powerstroke on links 99 and went horizontal for TW as well, so I guess I am just used to it. there are a crazy amount of things that can go wrong during the swing too, which is nice. I have certainly had my fair share of "oh sh--" swings, and that directly relates to my real golf game. but the RTS just seemed so nice and fluid that it would certainly warrant another look. I am also easing myself back in by playing on the default (pro?) level. shot a one or two under (had some mulligans while working on bunker shots so I don't remember what the "Actual" score was) at Kauri Cliffs last night. but that course played really easy and wind was minimal at most.

I can't believe that I forgot all about this game...

If you want to edit a bunch of stuff the best thing is to get a program like, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or one of those programs. You can edit clothing, clubs, all that stuff its real cool.

                      Pskep,

Quick question: Decided to jump at this game for $7 it was well worth the shot. I downloaded the 2009 Season stuff from linkscorner. The only course I have Dl at the moment is the awesome Pilgrim Trails. Is there any way to see what courses I need to DL to be able to play the season? Is there a Course pack that comes with the season mode that I possibly missed? Thanks for any help.

Edit: Nevermind, I found my answer at linkscorner

Photshop and Paintshop help you need to get off linkscorner.com

Do some searching through the forums and youll find some good tutorials both videos and written ones.

I am not too good with that aspect of Photoshop even though I use it to help with designing courses with the APCD program. What I actually did was took clothes other people designed, threw them in photoshop, and edited them to my liking. This was cool cause I did all funky colors and stuff.

I'm sure you already got this answer, but just in case, the season mode has default courses set for all of the tournaments, and often they're specific versions of courses that there may be a newer version of or a different one, etc. You'll have to either change the course for each round in the Season Manager for that given tournament or find the correct version of the course either at Links Corner or at apcd-courses.com (which has more courses but costs $20 for a yearly subscription.)

For instance, I think the default course for The Masters is the 2007 version, but there's a 2009 update released recently. So you can just change it to the 2009 version before playing the Tournament if you want.

As for the HD upgrades, from what I've been able to tell so far the HD upgrades have always been superior to the original versions. I wouldn't read too much into the ratings because some of them haven't been out long enough to get enough to get a consistent sample, and I suspect that fewer and fewer people are actually bothering to do it now that the "official" reviews are no longer being done.
