that makes sense. I tried a few holes of regular vs. HD for Bethpage, Shinnecock, and Pinehurst #2...and HD won every time. On my stock Dell inspiron desktop the render times are a few seconds on HD (whereas regular are basically instant), but it is 100% worth the added minute or 2 per round to allow the more detailed textures to load up. I'll certainly be updating the old and adding all the HD versions I can tonight.
and I am not knocking the non-HD versions, but simply agreeing that based on looks alone the updates seem worth it if they are available

are you playing a season more than online touneys? I noticed that quite a few are still available...and I soon as I can re-groove my swing I want to get some sort of actual competition, so I would be interested in your opinion of online compared to regular season mode

I've just been tinkering around with the season mode and messing around. The CPU scoring is much more realistic than Tiger Woods which is pretty much all I was looking for. The ability to play versions of tons of the real-life tournaments is just amazing.

I just got into the game last week so I haven't really messed around with the online stuff. But I did join the apcd-courses.com site (which is a $20 yearly subscription) and that gets you access to a bunch of free exclusive courses (like far improved versions of Harbour Town and Sawgrass, among many others) and membership to the APCD World Tour, which is a very elaborate handicap-based online season. I read some of the threads on there and it sounds very competitive and a whole lot of fun.

At this point, though, I'm just having fun trying out some of the courses you can't get anywhere else and experimenting with the different shot types. Reading some of the Links vets' comments online, I'm wavering between using the RTS (which is more realistic feeling and tactile) and the click method (which is more realistic in terms of the fact that it's actually a challenge to hit the ball straight, like in real golf). I'm probably going to be playing several rounds trying different swing types and difficulty settings before I settle in and actually play real seasons or online tournaments, etc. I want to keep scoring realistic without it being too difficult.
