    2009 The Open Championship

It is extremely early but Mark Calcavecchia and Tom Watson are tied for the lead, what is this the 1983 British open???? Edit, Watson -2 leader by himself..

He is for at least this first day. He's -5 and tied for the lead after round 1. Pretty dang good golf if you ask me. I don't think he will keep it up for 4 rounds, but remember Greg Norman made his resurgance at the Open Championship last year before fading on Sunday. It is a great story if nothing else.

I gotta say i'm really intrigued by Tom Watson.

There's a part of me that wants to see the old man get his last day in the sun. Kinda like how Nicklaus had his last day in the sun in his 40s when he won his last Masters.

Tiger may not make the cut...

I'll probably still watch some this weekend, but without Phil and Tiger the Open would lose a lot of TV viewers I bet.

Its a wrap for Tiger hes done, now if they had the old rule still in effect, 10 shots back then he would be fine. Oh well. Come on Tom, the greatest Links player ever.

It's kinda disappointing that the average golf viewer would turn away from watching this event just because Tiger and Phil are gone when there's a great story brewing with one of the absolute legends of the game.

It's like this year is a do over from last year. Just replace Watson's name with Norman.

Yep but at least Watson doesn't have a history of self destructing like Norman does.

If Watson is in the lead on the last day and some of you can't watch because Tiger and Phil aren't in it then you can't call yourself golf fans. Watson winning the Open would be the sports story of the decade. No one has come close to winning a major championship 2 months shy of his 60th birthday. It would be on one the greatest achievements in sports and equates to John McEnroe winning the US Open this year.

                      Agree 100%.

This is bigger than Phil and Tiger put together. He's 59 years old!

Trust me, the ratings for tomorrow will be huge. No doubt about it.
This is effin amazing for the sport of golf, and I'm not even a big golf fan.

If he wins...wow, it will be Miracle on Ice-esque. It's that big of an upset.

Decade? This would be the biggest individual sports accomplishment Ever.

Fisher has a horrendous hole and now Tommy is back in it. Come on Tom...
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
