Re: 2009 The Open Championship
How much does it suck to be Stewart Cink right now. Yeah, he totally wants to win a major and play hard, but if he wins he's the killjoy for one of the greatest stories in golf in a long time...
Come on Tom! I woke up at 5:50 am pacific time to watch you, you better f'n win this thing.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: 2009 The Open Championship
Cink in control...flame me if you want, but it's hard to call the putt on 18 as anything but a choke by Watson. He hit like he was afraid of itComment

Re: 2009 The Open Championship
It was right there and Tom let it slip away. Stewart Cink made the putt on 18 to post the mark and Tom missed the putt to win the championship.
Stewart Cink is your 2009 Open Champion. Congrats to him.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: 2009 The Open Championship
IMO, its good for golf for Cink to win. how can the sport say it has "athletes" when a 59 yr old w/a hip replacement can beat the best of the world over 4 days?Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: 2009 The Open Championship
Too bad for Watson. Yes, he choked pure and simple. But who of us wouldn't have?
I think he just got a little overconfident on the 18th. If he would have just hit a 9 iron, he probably would have won. If he would have pitched it up instead of putting, he probably would have had an easier putt. But he didn't. Then his nerves kicked in on his putt for par, and that was it.
He has nothing to hang his head over.....but he is going to remember and second guess his second and third shots at 18 for the rest of his life.Comment

Re: 2009 The Open Championship
And I don't think it mattered whether Cink or Watson won, as far as being good for golf. The sport wasn't/isn't in need of something to happen to get people to watch or in fear of something happening that would turn people away. So long as Tiger is playing then there will be people tuning in to watch and buying tickets to see.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: 2009 The Open Championship
I woke up early to watch the entire round and playoff. I've never really done that for golfing events but this one I had to see. I feel real bad for Tom as the putter just wasn't working for him for most of the day. He played a solid, if unspectacular round but by the end of the day he was clearly fatigued. I gotta hand it to Stewart Cink though, he put up a good enough score to earn himself a berth in the playoff so hats off to him.
I did feel horrible for Ross Fisher though on the 5th hole with his quad bogey. OUCH!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
