Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
The major thing I think that is wrong with the putting is that they made it harder to sink a 3 footer as opposed to a 10 footer. With short putts you have to bring the joystick back and forth quicker and it's much easier to go offline with the joystick and then you miss badly. With shorter putts they should allow more room for error because of the quicker back and forth motion needed. I used Tiger, who is rated at 98 putting, and I still flubbed a couple of short putts in a round. I didn't feel that much more confident using Tiger at 98 than my CAG with a 15 putter rating. So building up your golfer didn't seem to help me much.
They need to patch this quickly because any other golf games I've ever played leave a bigger sweet spot on shorter putts as it makes sense. If they don't the putting game will be an exercise in futility. They also seemed to put too much emphasis on uphill slopes and when it rains. It seems that a putt with a 3 inch slope feels like 3 feet and with any rain you seem to need to use a driver to putt it to the hole.
It's too bad such a simple thing got screwed up because with true aim this game feels incredible and really makes you think on every shot.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
I just noticed another difference in putting. In previous years you could get away with hitting a putt outside of the precision putting marker (the area which tells you how far to swing the coub). This year, it seems to really punish you for ever going outside of it.
In the past I kind of used the marker as a guide. Say for a fast downhill putt, the marker was the maximum I would strike the ball. If I was under the marker, no big deal, I'll probably get it in anyway.
This year if you are even a little outside that area you will be way short or way long. There's no "close enough".
On short putts I used to just get the distance close enough then I would just adjust with the meter. Now that is a really bad habit. You have to have that marker (sorry don't know what it is called) exactly where you want it.
Also it seems like long putts have less break, but short ones have more, as if it factors in the speed into the break more. Not sure, but that's just how it feels to me.Go Sabres!Comment

And so far as rain and uphill putts go, it's all just a formula. You can't just eyeball it and assume you'll end up close. For example, I've kind of figured out that on very fast greens you need to aim for about 60% of the distance to get the ball close. I'm sure there's an exact percentage that can be used for each of the various green speeds, uphill/downhill, and rain conditions.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
How exactly are you putting? I use very subtle motions with the stick and am having no problem with short putts. The further you go back the faster the meter goes so only go back slightly and it will go back nice and slow. I hope that helps because the putting system is really excellent this year IMO.

For uphill lies and rain though it is overdone. Maybe in a driving rain the ball slows to a crawl but in a light rain I find the green slows about 50% and uphill lies are overdone. Sometimes it feels like your putting in molasses.
I am getting better withg practice but it just doesn't seem as natural as other golf games I've played and I've played alot.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
I have come to the conclusion it is the DS3. I DL'd the 360 demo last night as I had an unopened copy. I played 6 holes and knew that I needed to put my PS3 up and play the 360 version. Opened it up and no more shanks with the MS Wireless controller. The 360 controller plays the game perfectly for me with just the right amount of sensitivity and challenge. Spent 4 hours getting my new CAG built exactly like the one on my PS3 that took me almost a week. The sensitivity on the DS3 for ALL swings needs to be adjusted IMO. When the Move is released, I will be back playing the PS3 version....PC / Xbox One X

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
I think I've found a fix for this DS3 sensitivity problem, well at least it's working for me especially with putting.
I was pulling the stick all the way back and then going forward which hurt me with short putts because you had to do it faster to get less power which you all know causes all sorts of mi****s and flubbed 3 footers.
Now I pull the stick less than halfway back instead of all the way back and just follow my golfer pulling his club back and then pull forward half the distance I used to. It takes a bit getting used to but I find I have much more control with all my shots and less mi****s with my driver, irons and putter.
With the putter for some reason your putts are stronger so it takes awhile to adjust to the right speed but it's a hell of a lot easier to sink the short ones.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
In its current state, I would strongly recommend playing with the Putting Meter on. The actual putting stroke is still not up to snuff when compared to Links 2004, therefore making it almost impossible to putt based on the animation alone.
If you can get over having to use the meter, the putting is actually really terrific. I enjoy it quite alot and feel a great sense of accomplishment when I make anything over ten feet. As it should be.Comment
