Can I play PGA Tour with a real golfer?

I don't want to create my own golfer and power him up and buy new equipment, etc. I want to take a real golfer, say Phil Mickelson, and play through the PGA Tour. Is that possible?

Bro...unless I am missing something this year, I am 99.9% that ain't happening. I never understood why they do not include this as an option. If I missing how to do this, I apologize, but I have yet to find a way!

No you can't. And I will never buy a Tiger Woods game again until they add this OBVIOUS game feature.

In every other sports game we aren't forced to be the qb, or the 2 guard, or the forward, etc...

I agree. On the other hand, do you realize how spoiled we've all become? I first played EA's Pro Tour Golf back in 1993. We had the choice of playing with the guy with the red shirt, the blue shirt, the green or the yellow. That was IT. And no career mode -- just strokeplay, skins or four-round tourneys.

I don't buy certain sports games because the CPU AI is broken and it's a waste of money at that point. Whereas if I didn't buy games due to a lack of the options I specifically wanted, I'm sure I'd never by another sports game again.

Your reasoning doesn't have any application to this particular point. There isn't a sports game on the planet...for the last 10 years...other than Tiger Woods...that doesn't allow you to participate in the respective sport with a REAL athlete from said sport.

Even Fight Night allowed you to go through your career as Tyson or Lennox and whatnot.

Only allowing you to do a PGA Tour career with a fake pro golfer is currently the dumbest, most idiotic feature that is in video game sports today.

I like to make a Nicklaus or Palmer (too bad you can't add a cigarette in Palmer's hand) and use that. I like to use a legend, more fun for me. I haven't done one yet but I haven't checked all the nicknames but if the golden bear is in there then it would be pretty cool to have the crowd yelling that as you play. Kind of a compromise.

Not sure but it might keep me from getting the game. Never have understood the logic behind this not being an option. As mentioned before this is the only sports game that pulls stuff like this. Can you imagine getting Madden and not being able to play a season unless you were the qb with all average abilitys? Not to mention you couldn't play at the new Texas stadium or the Superdome until you unlocked them.

I really do not see what the big deal is or why this would be a dealbreaker. You could easily create any Pro you wish with Photo Gameface and build the golfer to the right attributes to give you the stats that he/she currently plays to. Not to mention there are no courses locked either....

But what's a good reason for not having it? Would it be difficult to include a mode where I can just select to do a career with AK? Why should I have to go through creating him and building him up when I could just play with the pro they already have in the game?

My gaming time is unfortunately limited and the past couple TW's have lost my attention because I grow tired of having to build my golfer up to comparable level of others. My complaint against progression is a discussion for another thread, and as much as I would like to, it is difficult for me to spend the time progressing my golfer to the point where he can compete with others.

I just don't see a good reason for not having a mode where I can bypass that by choosing an already established pro.

they would have to make the pro alot more better than a regular golfer....therefore there would not be much of a challenge. Unless of course they make you play in the rain and mud for the whole time. :-)

Divot, I respect you and I appreciate all you do for this subforum...but under no circumstances can you possibly justify this feature not being an option. Your workaround is a lame excuse.

I shouldn't have to gameface the second best golfer in the world or the 10th best golfer. They have full access to the PGA Tour license and they don't use it properly. I should be able to do a career with Lefty or whomever...just like I do with the Colts or the Lakers or Lennox.

And to the argument of stats? Give me a break...it is simple...have two modes...a build your superstar golfer (where he is created) that all other sports games have...and another mode where you can just jump into a PGA Tour Career with whatever golfer you want just like any other sports game.

There is simply no reason why this isn't a feature and any defense of it not being so it just simply ridiculous.

Who is defending it? Do you see me saying that I agree with EA not to let users play as a PGA TOUR Pro in Season Mode? No. I agree with you guys 100%, but it is not a deal breaker for me as you can use a Pro in EVERY game mode offline and online except for Career and offline PGA TOUR Season Mode. That leaves a helluva lot of game to play as a Pro. The workaround is not elegant nor preferred, but IS a way you can play the current game the way you want to.

It is not a dealbreaker or gamekiller for me. I respect the fact that it is a dealbreaker for you and some others, but you are missing out on some really good videogame golf, IMO.

And comparing BB with TW is wrong because you have PGA TOUR Licensed courses and players, you just can't use the Golfers for part of the game.
