amen...tough but fair...and the risk/reward plays out well also when you try to pull off that miracle shot

right now, im stuck on the 3rd pro level tournament and trying to beat that Nichols guy in match play...ive been at this repeatedly and keep making those "brilliant" shots at all the wrong times....and i oh so desperately want to unlock St. Andrews

On the difficulty front, I wonder if it's because I play golf on a pretty high level. I'm not all that good on TW PC. But here I just apply a little course management and I usually can hit all the fairways and most greens.

But I'm still struggling to hit shoot under pat because of the putting.

            John:

Not sure how much actual golf experience plays into success in Links 2004. I don't golf at all, and I can hit fairways and greens on almost every hole. But my putting and chipping still suck.

I think course management definitely helps, such as knowing when to putt short or aim for the large portion of the green instead of going for the stick on a tight pin placement. But I think smooth analog stick control deserves more credit for success than golf knowledge.

At least that's the case with me! I know common golf principles but don't play, yet I still hit 16 or 17 fairways and probably 15 to 16 greens in regulation on Advanced, with a breeze and average pin placements. Maybe it would be a different story with strong wind and Championship pin placements.

But I'm still shooting in the high 70s and low 80s because I can't putt and chip for sh*t! I think the difference between a below-par round and my current rounds will take some serious practice to achieve. That's the difference between this game and Tiger: I always thought it would take just a few tweaks to shoot good rounds on Tiger at the advanced levels, where I really think I'll need to work at Links 2004 to become a scratch golfer.

            Take care,
            PK

Re: Links - how are you doing?

stronger wind, champ tees and tough pin placements really add difficulty to the game. Plus if you are only on the pro tour you are still dealing with some of the easier courses.

Later courses have angled, tight fairways that require you to play for hooks and slices along with the wind.

It may be on the high end with fairways and greens but it is still very challenging to shoot under par. You might be hitting greens but if you are getting on 50' from the pin I wouldn't say that is all that accurate.

A lot of times bad shots by the pros hit the green, they are just a long ways from the hole.

What's everybody's rank. It seems that it gets tougher to hit it straight as you go along. Or maybe I have the shanks???

i'm ranked 74. On the verge of becoming ranked higher and moving to the next round. Bogied the last hole of Greywolf to finish -3 and sixth. Now I have to play 36 holes again to get a fifth place or better to move on.

I know on different courses that you have uneven lies. You are far more likely to shank them when you have one of these lies. I also go in to periods where I just shank them off the tee. Other times It seems I can't miss the fairway. Comes and goes, which makes it fun. You shank more often in bad weather I have found as well.
