New to the game and got 2 hours in. Impressions are it's really bland and boring. It doesn't seem to have that 'umpf' that the tiger games had in the last gen. I'll for sure put more time into it.

Question about putting - I really liked putt preview from the last gen's titles. Is there a chance they're going to add that to this game?

Has anyone noticed the commentary is screwed up on the 4th hole at TPC Boston? I'm playing the fourth round in my career and in all 4 rounds the announcers have said it's a driveable par 4 and something along the lines of "it's only 284 to the front edge of the green." In reality it's about 355 yards to drive the green. At least.

For the most part, I enjoy the pre-tee shot commentary. The shot analysis is pretty bad, but they give solid descriptions of the holes and then knowing what you did on that hole in the previous round is pretty cool.

Doubtful. They give you the option of turning the putt reads on where it gives you a line each time. I agree it would be cool to have an option to get the read on a putt a couple times a round if you're on a hot streak but it doesn't seem likely.

As a side note, give the game some more time and play with the settings and I think you'll find it to be a decent challenge. I was a little off put at first but I'm coming around. Hopefully with some patches and some good DLC (clubs, clothing, and courses) this could turn out to be a great game.

Agreed 100% I've not heard a SINGLE person say otherwise. The putting mechanic is just awful, and the animations and childish and silly, and many will NEVER be seen in real golf. A fist pump? No problem. A moonwalk? LOL

There's NO WAY they didn't notice this in testing, is there? Who on their staff thought it was a good idea? I don't get it.

            Putting is frustrating, for sure.

What I've found to help me -- aim shorter than you typically would. For example, if the green is level and your putt is 10 feet, aim 9.5-9.75 feet. If you're using the dotted line putt preview and there's a break in the putt, aim directly at where the ball starts out according to that line and it should compensate for the break.

This has helped prevent those lip-outs that were causing me several strokes a round.

You, kinda made me register here. Why?! Because I can't understand how you can 3 click your way into the future! I'm not a pro at golf games, never seriously played it (just a few times I went to a driving range and putting green) but I played a lot of the TW games. And as the stick movement became present in EA titles I became addicted to them. NHL was awesome with analog stick shooting and skating, TW was awesome with stick movement (man, you had to swing!!! The stick, but it worked); it all feels so much better and makes so much fun. I don't get why you prefer 3 click. Sure I read your comments but I just can't agree. Even if it's more accurate... It's clicking!!

Enough said, I want to make friends in here not foes. Want to listen to the pros. Don't take my comment personal. It's just my opinion.

My copy will arrive in like 10 hours. I'll be happy to tee off tomorrow.

              Have a good night everyone.
I agree the stick is much more fun, but the 3 click is much more challenging. Therefore the 3 click is much more sim, which is what I'm ultimately looking for.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Available Today - Post Your Impressions Here

So after playing almost non stop since getting back yesterday and picking the game up on my way home from the airport, here's some thoughts on the game, just as they pop in my head. I haven't touched the Career it was pretty much all Play Now rounds and the Prologue:

-the game is absolutely beautiful with some frame rate issues that pop up here and there. But overall, no complaints at all about the graphics. I'm on PS4 FWIW.

-love the presentation and commentary, definitely need to do away with the celebrations.

-like the menus as well, though they could be better organized.

-the courses are replicated almost perfectly. Absolutely love how the grass moves as you take the club back in the thicker stuff.

-lack of courses is obvious but what is there is done so well, makes me pretty excited to see more in the coming months.

Finally, the gameplay, the elephant in the room. I tried variations of all 3 play styles. I tried Tour Mode with everything made as hard as possible. I played 3 click the same way. I even made a Custom set where I used the Standard swing on Expert difficulty to eliminate the really poor representation of tempo in this game.

The long and short of it is, whatever way you go, you're compromising somewhere. With the Tour mode, I've gone into great detail in other threads how poorly I think this is implemented, I'm not going to go over it here. I have had zero issues getting full power shots or anything of that nature. I just think it's really silly to make the stick movement required to get a good swing. It's way WAY too quick. It's not a golf swing or golf tempo in any way, shape or form. And the left/right misses aren't punishing enough. Ideally, I'd love to see the tempo stuff dialed way back, the left/right sensitivity turned way up or make the mis-hit window almost non-existent so that any deviation from a perfect up and down motion results in missing the target left or right to some degree.

3 click, from tee to green on the hardest settings, is almost perfect. It's punishing and makes you think about your misses and where you will err to be safe. Lots of hazards make me try and click a little earlier or a little later at impact so I avoid those hazards. This is beautifully done. Where 3 click falls short is with the short game. I can't put my finger on it but it just feels..."off". Someone a lot smarter than me can probably put this into words but 3 click on and around the greens is lacking.

Then there's the Standard swing style. You obviously don't get very much punishment for tempo or anything like that (unless you hold the top of the swing) but if the left/right on this style was more punishing, it could be a challenging mode. Ultimately, I think this plays more like the old TW games and would probably not be challenging enough in the long run, but it was nice to play a few rounds where I could take a nice smooth backswing and have a more natural progression to the downswing on the sticks. For anyone wanting to try this gameplay style, it is absolutely imperative that you hit Square to take your swing from Default to Full (or whatever shot type you're going to use) and not move the marker up and down for distance, only left and right. At that point, you have to hit a percentage of the full swing and it makes this more challenging.

For the time being, I'm going to go with 3 click when I start my Career and wait it out until a potential update makes Tour Mode harder. Could I make Tour Mode harder now by going to a full swing and calculating my distance from there? Yeah, I could but this swing interface has taken a step back from the 13 & 14 versions and become even more twitchy. Good luck trying to hit an 80% shot or 85% shot consistently. It seems like there's no way to attain any sort of consistency with the backswing in the game's current form which is a shame. If you try and take the club back slowly to be more precise, half the time it restarts your swing because I think it stopped reading your backswing at anything less than hyperspeed on the sticks.

As negative as it seems I'm being, I'm having an absolute blast playing the game. I think its fun. I think it'd be more fun if some changes were made to Tour Mode though.

Contrary to most here, I have no problem with the decision to put your yardage marker out there and try to hit to that percentage. It's what Tour pros do on every single shot they take. It's why they want yardages to the yard, not at 5 yard increments. I'm alright with putting my aim marker at 147yds and trying to make a swing that will make that happen.

But for this system to work, the backswing needs to be slowed down, the transition to the downswing has to stop feeling like a fighting game move and finally (and most importantly) the left/right misses, big and miniscule, have to be punished to some extent. I hope that's what's happening in the future.

The putting is pretty awful in its current state, the system is reminiscent of the TW games of 2005 and prior where you put the marker where you want it and just take a full swing every time. Not good. Scrap this baby, at least on Tour mode, give me one putter, and make me figure it out from there. With one caveat, going back to what I said above: make the backswing less sensitive. Otherwise, good luck trying to get a feel for anything on the greens.

Lastly, speaking of the greens, Tournament conditions aren't quite hard enough. One of my favourite things about playing in majors in TW 13 & 14 is how careful you had to be putting the ball because of the speed of the greens. Right now, the ball rockets off the putter and then seemingly hits the brakes near the hole.

Like I said, having alot of fun. From videos I thought it was an 8/10, playing it now, nothing has changed for me. It's a good golf game. But to truly take it to the next level, especially on the hardest difficulties, it needs some changes and an overhaul on the line of thinking of what makes golf hard. This game is close to being special.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Available Today - Post Your Impressions Here

So to summarize; presentation is nice, the visuals are good but there is a lack of depth and the gameplay is awful. To be honest this coincides with what I have real elsewhere perfectly.

I have eventually played the game (not bought the game), and I think the exact same. There is a slight issue with the popping up of animals/ trees with the visuals but nothing too substantial and not a massive sacrifice if the game-play was good.
However I too found the game-play tempo terrible; driving is way to easy and the only good system for sim is the 3 click (No doubt about that). The analog is a joke in that respect.
I have mentioned it many a time previously, but the lack of courses and depth is the real crime, it's just not a full game especially in regards to single player.
But the real ice cream on the cake is the multiplayer options they have also removed. So no longer does the game not offer longevity in relation to a career mode but it screws you for longevity in the multiplayer department too. So i just cannot see what EA thought this game offered, or who it appealed too, one of you guys has to help me with that?
Reduce single player career to an almost non-playable state and do the same for multiplayer.
To summarise it sounds to me like this game was developed not for single or multiplayer but for NO player. I think the the release of this game is summed up with the celebrations after holing a 4 ft par for tied 54th you get a moonwalk, shows how much thought has gone into this one.
It's a disaster for me. Just has no appeal.

I don't have the game. From reading reviews in career mode you don't play the entire course - is there an option to play a full course or are you forced to play less than a full course?

Sure. There is. Just head into career settings and you can choose between a quick round, usually around 5-8 holes or full round.

You'll get a a 2,5 multiplier if you choose quick rounds. It's the the way to go for people that can't spend much time on this game. I go for full rounds as I sick at home, out of work (paid )! It nearly gives you the same progression aka lvl up as full rounds.

I'm still mind blown how pebble beach and Torrey pines didn make the original course list, those have been staple courses of the series for a very long time

Because you're new to the boards, I'll assume you just didn't know, but a lot if not all of these questions have been answered. Often multiple times. All it takes is a quick search of the forums using the search tool.

In general, I think guys are great about answering questions in the golf forums on here, especially with DivotMaker's relationship with EA.
