...they just want to get to the finish line of turning off any money outlay to support a dead past (the servers).

Sounds insane to me, for the bad PR value alone. To have servers running that have already been developed can't cost all that much to this huge of an entity. I could see it if they produced another sequel, but for example if they shut down online H2H in Rory any time in the next several years that will be it for me and EA anything.

Been playing this a lot and enjoying it, but a question. It seems to be a tad on the easy side. And let me say, I'm not one of those people that is looking for compliments or trying to brag, but I have it set to the hardest settings, Gusts on, Lie Advanced, Difficulty, Hard, No Zoom, Green grid on but no beads, no putt preview. I'm in my rookie year and I went T-21, 1, 1, 2, and am leading after 1 round in the next one.

How can I make this more difficult? I try to realistically aim for sides of fairways for better angles, I use shot shaping, I play different shots. I think the biggest issue is the short game is too easy, so when I get in trouble, getting up and in is no issue at all. In fact, sometimes, I'd rather miss the green short side and chip/pitch than have a long putt.

Any suggestions?

As long as RM is in the EA Access Vault, they won't pull the plug for online play.

Well, we were in the same place, beating the field always, until last night when we played 18 holes H2H and turned Swing Mechanic to ADVANCED. We (brother and I play H2H) typically shoot -4 to -11 or so on our matches playing w/ zoom on, HARD difficulty, winds at least 9-12mph, and Tournament conditions, but w/ Swing Mechanic set at STANDARD.

So after changing to Swing Mech ADVANCED, by the 15th hole we were both tied at... +16! What?! Putting became way more difficult as did everything else including driving distance and chipping and putting both. We were playing w/ lower attribute players FWIW. We started to get a feel for it and I parred the last 3 holes but it took some effort. This quite obviously upped the ante hugely for us though of course one would start getting better hopefully quickly enough to stay w/ it. Brother tried 9h late last night w/ Swing Mech Adv, but difficult set to NORMAL and he shot -1 and thought it seemed just right.

Next, I don't see shot shaping as an option (it's grayed out in our configuration) unless you're willing and able to do the diagonal swing, which we don't dare do unless it's to get out of trouble as it's technically still too difficult to do. So this makes me think you're not quite using the hardest settings. It's really a whole other game when you have Swing Mechanic set to Advanced. See if you have that enabled and let us know how it goes.

Also, if you can find someone to play H2H with, you're literally on the clock on each shot and that adds an element of pressure you don't have in solo play.

There are definitely elements of Rory that are way too easy for some reason, even on the hardest methods of play..

My main gripe was that the "off the tee" game just doesn't seem to have enough left/right penalty if your swing isn't perfect.

Just watching a single PGA event on TV shows how a high FIR % shouldn't be anywhere close to the "given" that it is in Rory... It really tarnishes the experience to me.

What's your take on them not selling it anymore on PS store?
(unless that's a glitch..)

Just checked again today - still reaches an error page if you try to buy it for PS, but it does still seem to be available on the XB side of things - odd

Yes I can agree w/ that, at least did until I went to the above described settings. It's so much harder now that we caved and paired back Swing Diff to Normal, but kept Mechanic at Advanced, and kept Swing Diff at Hard just to make it reasonable for our skill level. I'm sure we'll get back to Hard on that but for now there is a lot of challenge.

I really don't have a take on it.

I don't care about EA Golf any longer since they chose to quit on their customers.

The game is still available on XB1 because it is still available on EA Access which is XB1 only. Sony really dropped the ball by not being a part of EA Access, IMO.

That was more challenge than we were interested in for the time being, so we kept MECH at ADVANCED, and dialed DIFF back to NORMAL. The take home point is that when both of these settings are maxed, it's very obviously a totally different game in terms of difficulty, at least for our skill level. My guess is many to most people who have played this game never got to BOTH of these else they would have found the game much less easy to beat, at least that is our sense early on w/ it.

I guess I'm just fortunate with my skill level or something because I had absolutely everything maxed out, including everything you mentioned, and I just found the game to be too repetitive and simplistic off the tee.

In any case I'm glad you guys are finding a great way to enjoy it because it certainly is beautiful!

I really wish they were still developing it

I went to Swing Mechanic Advanced and Swing Difficulty Hard from the get go and it is still too easy for my liking.

Glad you are finally seeing what I was talking about.

Actually fired up RM the other night for a few holes and was -3 after 3 at this level at Quail Hollow with breezy conditions and all aids off. I stopped there.

Has anyone tried putting the game on its easiest settings and seeing what cartoonishly low score you can set? I tried that today and shot 46 at TPC Scottsdale. But I had two pars, so I left a couple strokes out there. I wonder if it's possible to break 40...

What's amazing to me is: Was this the range of difficulty they really wanted?

It's almost like the goal was to enable, really high end, PGA Tour Pro/nearly best in the world scoring, with very little work or development or skill required on the players part to achieve it.

I hate to say it, but it's almost "auto golf" on anything but the highest of settings.

I can't even fathom playing the easiest/easier ways to play and actually finding it rewarding or enjoyable in the slightest.

Then again - If you watch some people playing golf games on YouTube or Twitch, there does seem to be quite the contingent that thinks it's realistic & fun to just birdie nearly every single hole on any course, with any conditions, with ease. Mind boggling to a real golf fan like myself.. oh well
