Re: Tour Gameplay Style Fan Feedback
Thanks for listening, I'll add a few thoughts:
Left/right misses are definitely a problem, but I don't think an angled swing is the best solution. It feels like an artificial way to increase difficulty to me, especially when it forces every shot to be shaped. I think there needs to be a timing element to accuracy. There definitely is in real life. Three click has always done a pretty good job of left/right distribution, while every game I've played with simple analog controls makes straight shots far too easy. You could combine the two and use the analog swing for club path, and a click at impact for release timing/club face angle, or something along those lines.
Three click on the hardest level could be less forgiving. It's still pretty easy to hit a 200 yard iron shot close.
I'd add an option to lock the target arrow at 100%, or hide it completely. Being able to drag it to an exact spot seems too simple for the harder modes, and eliminates the difficulty/strategy of in between yardages.
Green speeds are far too slow, even on the tournament settings.
I don't think the hole physics are a problem. If anything, I think balls hit over the lip fall in too easily. I think the problem is the slow green speeds, which mean that any putt that would run more than a couple feet past the hole is running really fast at the hole.
The 3-click meter is in a really bad spot, especially on short putts.Comment

Re: Tour Gameplay Style Fan Feedback
I'm making it difficult enough for myself already evidently.
looking forward to any new ideas, hoping they can be implemented by us as they have to date, as options to work into when we're readyComment

Re: Tour Gameplay Style Fan Feedback
Definitely a lot more emphasis on left/right misses and a lot less emphasis on ramming the sticks forward to attain good tempo.
A single putter length (say 150ft) where I have to calculate the distance of my backswing.
Getting rid of the green ball for tempo as a DEFAULT Tour mode setting would be icing on the cake. I'd love to see a system like you had in TW 11 and to some extent in 13&14 where I have a carry distance and that's it. Leave the rest to me to figure out. Don't let me move that carry distance marker.

Turning off the Green Grid has improved the difficulty tremendously. Just what the dr ordered for my game.

The swing has to be more difficult to pull off. The foundation for great gameplay exists in this game. The devs need to focus on the right elements to make Tour mode a difficult but REALISTIC experience.

Re: Tour Gameplay Style Fan Feedback
I see the reasoning behind doing this, but golf is a difficult game tee to green and the way difficulty is represented in this game is not realistic or accurate.

Not disagreeing but at this point what we have is all we have to work with. I'm just controlling what little that I can control to improve my experience with this shallow title.

I'm hoping what the devs are seeing in this thread is we are doing these things because we HAVE to, not because we WANT to.

Re: Tour Gameplay Style Fan Feedback
I just wanted to pop in and say thanks for gathering and listening to our feedback here at OS. I think it's great and look forward to the upcoming improvements of the game. I think you all have a great base game here it just needs some fine tuning.
For the record to increase the difficulty and errant shots I have to use 3 click. I haven't broken par yet using it this way.Comment

With all that said, it is a good game so far and I'm very excited to see where the devs take it going forward.

Re: Tour Gameplay Style Fan Feedback
I know this doesn't have anywhere to go, but I wanted to put it here since there is a designer reading this thread. I would LOVE a practice mode....
What I mean by this is I should be able to have the course be void of spectators and I should be able to select any course and drop a ball anywhere on that course and hit over and over and over if I wanted to to practice a particular shot. I feel like this would be realistic because tour pros are able to do this before each weekly tournament. I can't tell you how many shots I have hit during a round and said, man, I wish I could try that again to see if I could do something different to improve the shot. (Not a mulligan)
This last part is not a necessity, but it might even be cool if the balls from previous shots stay on the course for that hole. So just like at the practice green, there are many balls that litter the green from chipping.
Even if a practice mode is not a realistic update right now, seeing as how this isn't a yearly release, maybe it is something they could add for next year.
Let me know what you guys think???Comment

Re: Tour Gameplay Style Fan Feedback
Just putting this out there. After playing TGC I noticed when trying to apply loft to a shot I noticed I had to push up to adjust. It's the same in RM.

Re: Tour Gameplay Style Fan Feedback
[EDIT]: I see Divotmaker's already beat me to the punch, but I'll toss in my thoughts that incorporate a lot of his.
Justin, my #1 request four Tour gameplay would be to allow gamers to in essence, create another level of Tour difficulty. Divotmaker (Tim) calls it Tour Custom. It looks like this:
Swing Mechanic: Advanced
Swing Difficulty: Hard
Spin Control: Off
Green Grid: On
Putt Read: Off
Aiming Arc Off
Zoom: Off
Wind Gust: On
Lie Effect: Advanced
Shot Shaping On
I would to add to that the ability to get rid of the swing "fill meter" and not show it until after impact for all shots, including putting. I find to I actually come closer to matching the desired backswing and tempo by watching my golfer's animation, but the fill meter is just enough of a distraction to where it disrupts my concentration a good bit of the time. The swing process feels more natural and immersive to me without having to watch meters or gauges on the HUD during the swing.
I also support Divotmaker's idea to get have the club default to it's full shot setup when you choose it and put the burden on the gamer to adjust their loft and swing strength to achieve the desired shot and distance. This would put more of a premium on feel and intuition.
Divotmaker also has an idea that sounds feasible for putting that sounds good in theory. I'm away from my XB1 until Saturday so I can't test it with my few minutes of remaining EA time, but he's proposing having the putt aiming cursor have a fixed distance of let's say 100 feet for example, and put the burden on the gamer to modulate the stroke with the the stick proportionally to execute the putt. Again, this would draw more upon feel and I think would result in a more engaged level of interaction.
Finally, I'd like to suggest that the swing rhythm be a factor in the accuracy of the shot. It is too easy to hit a straight shot, even with Tim's Tour Custom settings. By rhythm, I mean have the ideal downswing be 4 times the speed of the backswing. If the gamer is too quick with their ratio rhythm, they would pull/draw the ball, and if they were too slow with it, they would /push/fade the ball. I've seen this work in another golf game (although the swing is not in real time), but it's something special and adds an all new dimension to the game.
