I thought this too, he's on painkillers for all the stuff he's been through, I believe that was more related.

I don't even care whether the guy ever tees up another golf ball or not at this point. I just don't want to see him in the news anymore, because it's never for anything good.
I've always been a Tiger fan myself, but I agree, he does need to be smarter in the choices he's made here. If it's drugs (painkillers imho), then someone needs to make sure he doesn't go out for a nightcap or whatever.

      US Open picks?

Erin Hills seems like a wildcard. Maybe a dark-horse, out-of-nowhere type of player? Or a first-time major winner? I sorta like Rahm, although he definitely wouldn't be an off-the-radar winner.

I don't usually post in the Golf section but it looks like all the crying about the USGA set up this weekend was much ado about nothing. I mean how can you legitimately cry about the rough being nearly impossible to play through when you've got guys breaking records?!

I actually saw a report about it before the tourney and Bob Weeks (TSN's golf guy) said that it's true that the rough is murder but this particular golf course has the widest fairways in US Open history so if you're in the rough it's on you and it's not as punitive as initially thought.

Actually hoping today to end in a playoff tomorrow.

I have tomorrow off and missed the Tiger/Rocco playoff years ago. Would love to have something to watch on TV tomorrow.

And that bogey pretty much takes Fowler out of contention.

Re: Actual Golf: General Tourney discussion

Erin Hills just doesn't strike me as a venue the USGA will ever return to. You can't have a course that's entirely 100% dependent on weather to provide its only defense. From my perspective, if the pro's ain't complainin', the course ain't hard enough for a US Open.

Fox's broadcast is getting better, but their cameramen still suck. They simply can't follow the ball, and too often we were left staring at a fairway or green with no golf balls, wondering where that shot went. It's distracting and annoying. CBS and NBC seem to have figured out how to do this....hopefully that improves. I will give Fox credit for bringing out all their toys and gadgets to their broadcast. I like that they try new/cool things, even if a lot of them seem gimmicky. Honestly, shot-tracker is revolutionizing golf broadcasts to the extent that the first-down line did for football. I can't wait until the day that all shots are able to be traced in this fashion. It makes watching the shots so much more interesting.

The USGA needs to ignore the pros and bring back the fear factor to the US Open. That's what made it such a compelling tournament in my opinion; without the fear factor, it's basically a random summer PGA tour stop with nothing differentiating it from the Valspar Open or whatever.

Phil and Bones broke up today. Didn't see that coming.

Yeah, I'd be interested to hear what the story there was (if there is one). Maybe Phil's just dialing back his playing and Bones wants to work for someone who's playing every week? Who knows?

Haven't heard much on the reason the broke up. Some speculation it's been building and Bones having to go to Erin Hills, even though there was minimal chance Fig Jam was playing was just icing on the cake.

But have heard some strong rumors of Bones going on Jon Rahm's bag at some point. There's a little connection with Tim Mickelson coaching Rahmy in college. Would be a good pairing to get Jon to calm down a little.
